  1. I don’t mind Germany’s adidas stripes being tonal, but the crest and adidas logo being tonal is too much. The numbers and sleeve trim being just about the only thing you can see on the kit makes it look like a very generic, video game placeholder kit. I’m really not a fan of it and feel like they could’ve done much better. The 2018 set as a whole really blows this current set out of the water, in my opinion.
  2. I suppose I understand the reasoning for keeping black from a marketing standpoint, but it sure doesn’t look that good with wine. Cleveland would look so much better if they’d just simplify to wine, gold, and white. Regarding Cleveland’s historical identity crisis, I’ve never really known what the “essential” Cavs identity is, and I don’t think the Cavs have ever really known either. They’ve seemed to chase after different identities thier whole existence, and to a detrimental fault. They’re in a weird spot in my head where they’re both relevant and irrelevant at the same time; relevant because of Lebron and a recent title, yet irrelevant because they suck again and I have no bearing on what thier brand or identity is or ever was. If I were ever hired to rebrand them, I honestly have no idea what I’d do with them nor would I trust the brand would last five years at this point. They’re perpetual shapeshifters and I just don’t understand how or why they insist on being such time and time again.
  3. My best guess is the era mash set would be a special “Classic” designation that every team gets rather than a City set. If they’re going to turn out like that potential Phoenix leak, though, I’d rather they not exist at all. A straight up throwback for every team would suffice for the anniversary. As far as rebrands go, I think Dallas is by far the most due. I’d love to see them finally make a change next year, though I doubt Cuban will ever part from his look. I don’t think the Pelicans have to scrap everything, but they sure could stand make a few changes here and there to freshen things up (and best to do it now with Zion on the rise).
  4. I’ve been saying this for a while now. The basic idea of the Jaguars uniforms is a great one, it’s just that the wrong team had the idea. It’s Arizona who should’ve gone that route, not Jacksonville.
  5. Honestly, I think that’d be the best uniform in franchise history if it took the field. It’s a great both-of-best-worlds solution between the ‘94 throwbacks and the current/classics. I’m sold.
  6. I dig the new San Marino crest! I don’t think the notches that help illustrate the “S” had to be tapered - I think they still would’ve read well straight - but the overall crest is still pretty nice. Their Campionato logo’s “S” looks awfully similar to the last Sonics’ “S” though, so it’s hard to unsee that. Not that those in San Marino would likely make that connection, but still.
  7. Corinthians is as classy a set as it gets. Beautiful work! And really, beautiful work all around on this series. It’s been so fun to follow and I really admire your attention to details. Everything looks very professional. Can’t wait for Spain!
  8. I think it would have been much better without the football in the background. But yeah, the Tostitos logos were far and away the best it ever got for the Fiesta Bowl, and it’s not that close. It was the perfect sponsor-bowl partnership, too.
  9. Great work, as always! Santa Jaguar is one of my favorite field features of all-time. I really wish they would have continued using it every year.
  10. I wonder if that crest shape on the page is a silhouette of the actual thing, or a placeholder. I could see how the top of the Gateway Arch could possibly fit within that rising center.
  11. I don’t have a problem with it myself, UC Riverside has used a bear in some form for years. The use of a bear isn’t anything new from them in and of itself.
  12. They should park a camper outside the stadium too. ”Are you crazy? A guy in a really nice camper wants to put our song on the radio!”
  13. I think what bothers me most about it is that the sloppy parts are extremely easy to correct, and the fact they weren’t makes the approach seem very lazy. Some designers use a grid to construct thier marks, some rather align it to a grid after construction to align things correctly. In any case, the top slant is something that should have been quite obvious with the aid of a grid, and I really question how thorough the work was here if they didn’t even bother to check how everything aligned.
  14. Are the logos on the article traced from the reveal footage? I can’t tell if the “CLT” is really that botched for real or not, but it does appear at the very least that the “C” really does have that slight tilt at the top in every instance I’m seeing it. I can’t unsee that tilt and if that’s real, then that’s really poorly done.
  15. Very good of them to admit a mistake and work to rectify it so quickly. Also, from a strictly design standpoint, the change looks a lot cleaner and better altogether anyways. Good move all around.
  16. Apologies if this is somewhere in the thread already, but Larry Bird once played a doubleheader for Indiana State’s baseball team: The story: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.sbnation.com/platform/amp/2020/4/28/21240080/larry-bird-college-baseball-indiana-state-he-was-good
  17. EDIT: I had posted a picture of Tiny Archibald in the last Royals uniform but had forgotten it was on the first page. I also found Archibald in the classic Royals uniform, which is something I’d never seen before:
  18. I’m with you there; I’ve had a hard time buying the Bullets-ification of the Wizards as any kind of solution for them. They definitely could’ve evolved the mystic theme into something better, plus the old color scheme still looked “federal” and relevant to DC without being overly patriotic.
  19. I’m not sure if this fits here, considering it was technically “used” somewhere, but this Celtics backdrop caught my eye: The text on the logo is not the hand drawn version that was used then and is still on the logo today, but looks like an actual font that’s applied (and adjusted a little better) instead. Compare that to the actual logo of the time: and this backdrop with the recolored logo, also during Pitino’s tenure: That’s the current logo, with what appears to be the “correct” text. So, the logo in the first press conference is altered somewhat and I don’t recall that version being used anywhere else. Given that the text is much more cleaned up in that version, they probably should have.
  20. Sharper lines and a little bit of simplification really helped it out. In my opinion, this is a successful “less is more” effort.
  21. I like what they tried to do, but something about the horse looks a bit awkward. I’m not sure what, but the rendering doesn’t look quite right between the positioning of the head and neck. I also think the crest is just a bit too ornate, I get there’s symbolism in it all but it really needs some simplification. Honoring a billion different things in one logo just isn’t that necessary in my opinion.
  22. Apologies if this was posted already, but here’s one I thought was interesting: There have been only two triple-overtime games in NBA Finals history, and Paul Westphal participated in both of them; once as a player (1976 Game 5) and once as head coach (1993 Game 3). He was also a member of the Suns both times.
  23. Multiple NBA teams’ intros featuring “Sirius” during the 90’s: It’s widely known as the Bulls’ classic intro song, but other teams in the 90’s used it as well (including the Suns, Bucks, Rockets, and Jazz). It’s such a theme of the 90’s NBA in my head, especially the playoffs. Other things: - Keith Jackson or Brent Musberger calling Rose Bowls. Fowler is good, but Jackson and later Musberger just “fit” the Rose Bowl to me. - EA’s MVP Baseball - EA’s NCAA Football - The Tostitos Fiesta Bowl - Of course, the Seattle Supersonics
  24. These are definitely a bit too 90’s, but I really dig that they considered an igloo alternate logo. Even though they don’t play at The Igloo anymore, I think an igloo alternate logo would be kind of cool as both a tie-in to the name and a nod to team history.
  25. There’s a lot of things I miss about the NBA. It used to be my favorite league and sport to watch as a kid, but a lot of stuff seemed to gradually change and it just doesn’t hold the same excitement to me now as it did then. I still follow it, but not nearly as enthusiastically. 1. I REALLY miss the NBA on NBC; the theme, the announcers, the pregame, the graphics, everything. I don’t know what it was, but everything about NBA on NBC seemed like a huge deal and was super exciting as a kid. ESPN/ABC has just never held a candle to all of that for me. 2. I also miss the days before the modern super-teams. Yes there were technically similarly stacked teams back then, but it seemed in the 90’s and early 2000’s that despite the Bulls, Spurs, and Lakers, there was still some kind of parity and talent spread out across the league. Those dynasty teams of the 90’s-early 2000’s always had different challengers and competitors (Bulls faced five different teams in six Finals, Lakers threepeat faced three, the early Spurs faced multiple teams as well). Warriors vs. Cavs three years in a row was so fatiguing to me that by part III, I didn’t even care. At least seeing new blood in one of the conferences every year for a long time was refreshing enough to stay interesting for me, even if that team was likely to lose. 3. Purely 90’s kid nostalgia speaking, but I miss a lot of the 90’s uniforms too. There’s a lot of them that wouldn’t work at all full-time today, but I’ve still got a soft spot for many of them, garish and cartoonish as some were. The mid-2000’s went a bit too dull and conservative across the league and killed off a lot of personality in NBA team branding, and I think that lent to me losing some interest as well. Brand-wise, it didn’t look as colorful and fun as it once did. It was fine and inevitable to tone down the whimsy a bit, but I think some changes went too far.
