North American Pro Soccer 2015

I've only been to MLS games at CenturyLink, and the only time I saw a problem was with Timbers fans at a Sounders/Fire game. This was before Portland joined MLS.

I've been to a handful of Sounders/Timbers MLS matches and there haven't been incidents that I've seen.

I have a friend who went to a Sounders/Timbers game in Portland and sat in the Seattle supporters section. She had to arrive and hour or so early and then stay late to be dismissed after the stadium cleared out. I'm sure it helps, but it also seems excessive.

The tribal mentality among some US soccer fans is pretty annoying and completely unnecessary.

Yeah, when we were taking naming suggestions for the Third Rail, we had just a couple rules: no "Ultras" or "Firm" or "Hooligan" anything. Cut that :censored: out before it begins.

Unfortunately you guys have the Batalon (Batallion in English) dumbasses that can supply enough stupid for everyone and were causing trouble at the Open Cup from what I'm hearing.

I'm not sure how you or the club can police them more than you can though so I'm not going to blame all NYCFC fans for it. I know they are already banned from NYCFC home games if I recall correctly so I don't know what to do.

The Cosmos supporters will fight anyone, including themselves.

San Jose Ultras tend to be toolbags. See also: Atlanta Ultras. (Notice a naming pattern there?)

:censored: Atlanta Ultras.

Fortunately for MLS they don't seem too keen on jumping over to the new Atlanta team.

I'm a big Orlando City fan, despite what you hear OCSC games aren't like this giant gang fight or something. I've never personally seen any problems myself either and most people there are great.

There is a small group I think that has ruined the reputation for the rest of us and I know the team is cracking down and working on it and as the year goes on I do think it's gotten better.

It's embarrassing though and I wish they'd grow up and represent the better side of our city and team. It's disgraceful I agree.

Dempsey was suspended three MLS games for an incident that happened in the US Open Cup which is managed by USSF.

Luckily, his suspension will be up in time for the Gold Cup, so that's good for everyone but the Sounders.

Not quite sure I like how this all ended up. I'd have rather seen Dempsey suspended for future Open Cup matches and call it good. I get why they made the decision they did. I just don't like it.

I don't like it, either.

It's nowhere near enough.

There's that too.

USSF is being gross. Either suspend him from USSF activities or don't. Splitting the middle with his club team is cowardly.

On behalf of the Columbus Crew SC fanbase, I would like to return the :censored: you. That tweet that was sent out is beyond disrespectful.

Oh hey! another Crew supporter! I went to the recent Impact game and I was surprised how little problems the supporters sections had. We have good fans especially compared to that, it's beyond a disgrace and gives their club an soccer fans everywhere a bad name.

Given the "merger" of the three sections in 2008, everything has gone quite well. I've never ran into a problem with fellow supporters or supporters of the visting team at a match.

And as for Dempsey, I believe that is only a fraction of what he should have recieved. He seems to be getting the "superstar treatment", but I do see why they would do this.

The referees' union is not pleased.

Yeah, I don't actually care. MLS refereeing is not great, and the guy they had in the Timbers/Sounders match was especially in over his head. I'm not a referee and I don't know how hard it is. But we can all tell when a ref is asserting himself more than necessary, which is what happened earlier this week.

Soccer referees, moreso than in other American sports, have outsized influence on the game and their mistakes can't be fixed. The Sounders had a win taken away two weekends ago due to two horrible calls, and poor refereeing didn't help them against the Timbers this week.

While players should respect referees, refs need to earn that respect. Daniel Radford's previous MLS refereeing experience was one game as a fourth official, and in his prof career, he's issued an absurd 76 cards in 11 professional matches. He had no business being on the field, and I'd have more respect for the ref's union if they owned up to that fact.

It's funny that I've seen that the referee "lost control", and yet he was "asserting himself more than necessary".

You can lose control by being overly controlling. If you're constantly inserting yourself in the game, you're making every moment in the game suspect. I.e., this guy was pushed and got a yellow, but this guy was pushed and nothing happened. This guy got to throw-in from where he stood, while this guy had to move five years. If you make ticky-tack calls constantly, you interrupt the flow of the game, and it makes players irritable. Or at least it sure did Tuesday night.

Again, not a ref and not an expert. But I can't imagine averaging a red card a game for your career is a good thing. That's either an extraordinary coincidence, or maybe the guy is a little too trigger-happy.

EDIT: Also, I'd likely have a completely different opinion if I were a Timbers fan. That's sports :)

Referees shouldn't have to earn a player's respect. That's how stuff like what Dempsey did will keep happening. Soccer is already bad with how players crowd around the ref every call. Seeing Dempsey only get three games for that isn't going to help at all. In those situations, I wish the ref would start booking every player that crowds him that isn't the captain.

2 wins in a row for NYCFC! Perhaps they can make it 3 in a row next week when I'll be in attendance ;)

So, three MLS wins in a row :D

Anyway, I just got home now. Unfortunately, I killed my phone battery by watching Scherzer's almost-perfect game, so I couldn't take any pictures/videos. That aside, what a game! Villa scoring twice, a lot of bookings, and some fireworks at the end to top it off! And yeah, I got a bit of flack from TFC fans, most of it being after the game. All in all, it was fun, and I can't wait for when NYCFC comes back next year.

Next week is going to be huge, with City and Red Bull being tied in the standings. I'm glad that things are finally looking up for this team.

Funny, I saw the giant San Jose Ultras banner flying at the game the other day, and this was my first thought!
