bosrs1
So I guess investors that want to move the team north of the border should be able to soon? Or is there more red tape that needs to be cleared with before that? Now that Seattle is back in play, thereby giving Bettman another US market to fall back on, the odds of the Coyotes ending up in Quebec probably just dropped by an order of magnitude.Depends on if there's a willing ownership group there.Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Hansen willing? Or did he just want a team to move into his new arena?

There were a couple potential Seattle ownership groups before Hansen emerged, and some said that they had no interest in NHL hockey. Hansen, if I remember correctly, said he was open to it, but he wasn't willing to bring in NHL hockey before landing an NBA team.Which isn't the most ringing endorsement one could hope for. Then everyone realized that no one gives a about the NHL (and I mean that in the best way), and common sense moved forward. Brian in Boston
Don Levin, owner of the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves, has expressed an interest in owning a Seattle-based National Hockey League franchise.Initially, Levin was focused on owning an NHL team that would operate out of a proposed arena in Bellevue, Washington. However, he has since made it known that he would be open to setting-up shop in Chris Hansen's proposed Seattle arena. In February of last year, Levin told the Globe and Mail: "If he's successful, I'd be very happy to be involved. I told [Hansen] if he has something put together I would be interested."Levin is the principal in Glenview, Illinois-based DRL Enterprises, a company with holdings in a variety of industries including tobacco processing, aircraft and medical equipment leasing, manufacturing and distribution of licensed sports products, and motion picture production and distribution. What we thought was a deal didn't happen. So I am nowhere."Levin said he was informed of that news in an email last week.He said he would remain interested in helping Hansen get a team, but said, "I have had no (recent) contact with Chris. He has probably worked with some other people."Hansen has said he would not want to own an NHL team but would help facilitate efforts to bring one to Seattle."When I spoke to him at some point in the past, he said there were other people interested, so I'm sure he is (pursuing a team with other owners)," Levin said Quote 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags
The_Admiral
Seattle trails Quebec City in every metric you could use to determine where the NHL should go next, except the ever-important "not being Canadian" metric, where Seattle holds a commanding infinity-to-nothing lead. Seattle is a market that has heretofore shown ambivalent interest in an NHL franchise and may well be too tapped to do so (NFL/MLB/MLS/NBA/NCAAF/NCAAM is A LOT!).The NHL is stupid, so. The_Admiral
Quebec City also offers a national francophone television contract like what the Canadiens have, revenues from a team-owned network (or a network-owned team), they'll be the anchor tenant in a new arena, and they'll be an eighth Canadian team just in time for the Canadian networks to re-up their TV deals. They speak French, though! Fun fact: the penalty for "roughing" translates to Quebec French as "rudesse." You are sent to the box for rudeness. I love it. Hockey just sounds so right in French, I don't know what it is. Rudesse really translates to roughing as it is a physical act, whereas grossièreté is more of a verbal act. The_Admiral
I remembered learning "rudesse." Google Translate gives "harshness," "roughness," "brusqueness," and yes, "rudeness" as acceptable translations, Considering that it's for the roughing penalty, it's appropriately vague.Edmonton just approved a new arena for the Oilers, partial funding from the city and possibly province (though I wouldn't bet on that). Detroit and Calgary are the last cities left that "need" new buildings.EDIT: http://www.hockeyfig...anslator-73683/Here's a list of everything! Interesting that most of them are in past tense or infinitive. "Fighting" is "fought, stop of game." Third Man In is "to remain on the lines of battle." The_Admiral
They're trying really hard not to show how empty the place is. Usually where a hockey telecast would pan the crowd or do a wide shot of the arena (sponsorship messages, promotions, programming schedules, etc) they just go to a static shot of lights or scaffolding or anything that's not the crowd.
