Lol, and the Cowboys bring the opening kickoff back for a score. Welcome back, LA Rams!

The Bills announced today that they sold stadium naming rights to New Era. Seems solid.

Combine that with the way they have repeatedly been walking back the urgency for a new stadium, and I'd say it's fairly certain that we're looking at a major renovation of the current stadium in place of a new, downtown stadium. With the current stadium named for the recently-deceased owner and a new stadium coming in the near future, it seemed like the obvious thing to do was to keep the old name at the old place and sell the naming rights to the new place.

The current stadium just got $130M in taxpayer-funded upgrades, and that money would presumably be able to be leveraged as part of the "new" stadium instead of duplicating all of the stuff that $130M bought at a different site. You can tailgate there, it's not very far from the city, and it's sandwiched by superhighways to the east and the west. Maybe some of that renovation money can improve access from the highways even more.  None of the proposed downtown sites really seemed to work (hard to believe there's no room in downtown Buffalo, but it happened), and neither the Bills nor the county owned the entire land for any of those sites IIRC.

Also, cool that we got a local company that's a recognizable national name.

Yeah, seems like a plus all around. Plus if Miami could pull that miracle at Pro Player, then it seems like you could make some good things happen in Orchard Park.

There have been reports that the Rams are working on a contract extension for Coach Jeff Fisher and GM Les Snead.

I also wanted to make note of the fact that of course the NFL scheduled the Rams first game back to Los Angeles... against the :censored:ing Cowboys. Hooray for marketing, I guess.

I will say this. Those Rams colors sure don't look quite as drab under open skies as they did in the dome.

If this never happens again I'll be happy. I'm a Cowboys fan because I grew up without a team at home in LA. Now that the Rams are back I'd like to follow them as well. It's Cowboys all day if they do play again, but I'd hate to see the home town team lose.

Its preseason, but I liked what I saw out of Dak. He looked good in the pocket, and was accurate. It will be interesting to see what he looks like against a better defense.

If I remember correctly, each team submits a list of teams they'd like to play in the preseason, and the NFL makes the first three weeks of the preseason schedule and has the teams fill in their own fourth-week opponent.

It was pretty fitting that the first opponent in Los Angeles was the Cowboys and the owner that was Kroenke's biggest ally in moving to Los Angeles.

And, even though they were there 20 years ago, it's a little weird saying/typing "Los Angeles Rams"....

Well, guess he really really isn't starting this season.

He'll likely be back before the end of preseason.  It's not a big deal.

That being said, Doug Pederson is a godsdamned idiot (like his fat horrible-human mentor) for allowing Wentz to drop back behind a putrid OL as often as he did, and for not coaching him to slide rather than try to flip over people.

Regardless, they doubled-down on him not playing this year - they said they don't have plans to even suit him up this year.  They still think it's better for him to learn from Chase "one career touchdown" Daniels and to take tours of the city and learn about the people and community.  Seriously - they said he needs to spend time learning the community and fans before he can play.

I don't know if we've ever mentioned it here, but Amazon Prime has a Hard Knocks type show that follows the Cardinals through all of last season. I've only seen a couple of episodes so far, but it's pretty good. It's what I imagine Hard Knocks to be (I don't have HBO).

I just finished watching the entire series a couple weeks ago...excellent series.  I'm not a Cardinals fan, but to me, they're a pretty likeable team...Mike Bidwell has a done a hell of a job turning that franchise around.  He's the bizarro James Dolan.

Pretty cool scene at the Coliseum. All is right with world (somewhat) with the LA Rams back.

Yeah, it looked good on tv.  I think them playing at the Coliseum for a couple seasons will help dig their roots back into the market deeper.

Just looking ahead, it's not until 2018 when they play the AFC West again.  I was curious.  Chargers at LA that season, LA at the Raiders; might've been fun to see that place with the Raiders visiting.

Sometimes these get flipped around. The Bears played the Raiders in Oakland in both 2007 and 2011, for example. There's still hope for a family reunion.

I threw out that possibility because teams organize their own preseason schedules and I found it unlikely the Rams would "invite" Raider Nation to a preseason game. I was only allowing for the slim likelihood of a scheduling quirk forcing back-to-back visits to the Rams.
