At some point, the city should probably stop letting Dave Peacock run these things; that's two significant projects that have crashed and burned on his watch, and this one in particular should have been an absolute slam-dunk. The league wanted it, the city wanted it, they had the land and their ownership group was led by an honest-to-goodness billionaire. How do you screw that up? High voter turnout. The 300,000 city residents, 30% of which live below the federal poverty level, didn't want to divert the new tax revenues to these guys: http://m.riverfronttimes.com/newsblog/2017/03/30/st-louis-stadium-ownership-group-has-big-money-and-no-city-residency

That absolutely should have failed, and it's kind of reprehensible that they even asked in the first place, although it's better than the last time when the city government actively sued to prevent a public vote. I meant, how do you screw up a massive major league sport expansion bid/stadium project over such a relatively small amount of money? When you have a billionaire leading the ownership group? Somebody must have convinced him that the free city money was a sure thing, if he's taking his ball and going home now at the first bump in the road. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! We knew coming into this the league was looking to grow in the Midwest, and I think those two were the only cities who bid. Maybe? Didn't Detroit bid as well? Gothamite
Yes, Detroit did. And they had twelve bids total - nobody is going to be a lock on regionalism alone, even if the league would kind of like to be in a place. Far from a lock, Indy's bid isn't considered very serious for this round of expansion. They don't have a stadium deal, or even a plan, which is a prerequisite. It appears that their bid is more about keeping themselves in the public conversation than any possibility they could actually be chosen. The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog. crashcarson15
Indy’s bid is odd, because I really don’t think ownership has the money, and the club doesn’t have a real stadium plan outside of “we’ll contribute some* money” to it. *Some = $10 million I’m pretty sure MLS wanted an Indy bid more than Indy wants MLS right now. Obviously, that could change with the right investor down the road, but the finances just don’t seem to be there — in many different ways — right now in Indianapolis. Since St. Louis seems to be out, there are 11 left, nearly all of which have fleas. If not ownership pockets, it is a SSS pln. DG_ThenNowForever
Is that Orlando City song sung to Seasons in the Sun? If so that's pretty cool. I didn't know the game would be on national Fox yesterday. I only saw the last minute or so but everything looked awesome on TV, including the new Orlando stadium. I wouldn't have picked that city for making MLS work but it's really cool that it is. Unrelated, Seattle can't score this year and it's distressing. 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags

Viper
The Loons are looking less and less like MLS laughingstocks every week. With Minnesota's 1-0 home win vs. (Tim Howard-less) Colorado they have achieved: Their first clean sheet in MLS (also their first clean first half) Three straight halves (including the second half last week at Houston Dynamo) without conceding a goal, after hemorrhaging goals their first few games Their first MLS point streak (draw last week in Houston, win today) Miguel Ibarra's goal (and the play that set it up) was a sight to see.
