The_Admiral
I've always been stupid but that list made me dumber. 8 Quote ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
mjd77
Good God, these name the team lists just keep getting worse...and using Down East is stupid too. I suppose using something like Kinston Flight wouldn't get enough attention.
TBGKon
Well if Kinston is going with Down East, Fayetteville better be going with Cape Fear... If it were me, the name would be Down East Wood Ducks.
BeerGuyJordan
The MiLB is making Foley look like a creative genius, by comparison, and I loathe his options. 1 Quote Thunder Bay Lynx - International Hockey Association (2 seasons, 2017-18, 2019-20, 2018 Xtreme Cup Champions) | Houston Armadillos - Major League Hockey (2 seasons, 2016-18) | Minnesota Muskies - North American Basketball Association (1 season, 2017-2018) | Louisville Thoroughbreds - United League of Baseball (1 season, 2017, 2017 United Cup Champions) | Las Vegas Thunderbirds - International Basketball League (1 season, 2016-17, 2017 Champions)

At least Cape Fear is a real thing. Couple things, including the river that runs right by downtown. That's much better than an informal nickname for a region. 1 Quote The Green Bay Packers Uniform Database! Now in a handy blog.
panthers_2012
I like the Wood Ducks... Probably won't win, but that would be a near logo.

The new Rangers high-A affiliate-to-be in Kinston, NC now has a name-the-team poll up. From MiLB.com: Down East Eagles VoteA nod to baseball history in the Eastern part of the state, the Eagles were the first pro team to play at Historic Grainger Stadium. Down East HamHawks VoteAs one of the country's biggest pork producers, there's no questioning the importance of the mighty pig in North Carolina. But, hogs are just a fraction of what the state is known for - this is also the birthplace of aviation. This team name is a play on words paying homage to some of the state's most notable contributions. Down East Hogzillas VoteWhole hog BBQ is part of the very fabric that makes Eastern North Carolina a colorful place. Hogzilla is a mighty and powerful team ready to bring home the bacon, and the wins, for fans. Down East Shaggers VoteThe Carolina Shag is a partner dance that will leave your toes tapping. Watch for members of this team to shag balls on the field and maybe even invite you to dance at the ballpark. Down East Wood Ducks VoteAlso known as "woodies", these colorful local waterfowl and a favorite among local hunters and boast some of the sharpest claws among all ducks. Less than 24 hours after hatching, these gutsy ducklings make a long and unassisted jump out of their nest high above the ground. Look for this team to make equally plucky plays on the field. Dumb choice to go with "Down East" in any case. Where's Down East? What's Down East? Isn't that a department store or something? As for the name, each nickname is idiotic aside from Eagles and Wood Ducks. 2 Quote http://i.imgur.com/Pyc5qRH.gifhttp://i.imgur.com/RDXvxFE.gif LED Sig Credits to packerfan21396
WSU151
I'm just wondering what kind of logos will be created for "Shaggers"...I don't think they thought that one through. Wood Ducks would get my vote. Quote Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.
Burmy
I admit, I REALLY like the Wood Ducks possibilities...this sounds like something right up Brandiose's alley.

Wood Ducks is workable (and could be excellent if done right), but Brandiose will probably interpret "wood ducks" as literal wooden ducks, with a logo of a wooden duck swinging either a 2x4 or his detatched foot. And yes, all the bad name options (Shaggers, HamHawks, Hogzillas and the locale being "Down East" instead of Kinston) reek heavily of #DelusionsOfBrandeur. Edited September 26, 2016 by DustDevil61 Added "Down East" as a bad options because seriously, is this team being sponsored by Down East? Also, added "right" to "if done" and emphasized it because as the post suggests, there is a horrificly wrong way to go about branding Wood Ducks. 2 Quote http://i.imgur.com/Pyc5qRH.gifhttp://i.imgur.com/RDXvxFE.gif LED Sig Credits to packerfan21396
tron1013
HamHawks is amazing. I saw this online (not my work) but I would pay tens of dollars for a hat with this logo:
Brian in Boston
Clearly, the list of finalists in Kinston was heavily influenced by the Brandiose brain trust. Frankly, I'm pulling for Down East HamHawks, if only to see the primary logo that will undoubtedly depict a pig wearing a vintage leather aviator's helmet, goggles, and a flight jacket, while swinging a ham hock like a baseball bat.

The Mojo Maniac
The High Desert Mavericks (Rangers high-A affiliate, the soon-to-be "Down East" club) just played their final game in franchise history and won the California League championship. That sadly puts to rest a fun, unique identity that was underrated, IMO: A classic concept with a dash of Wild West flair. Glad to have hats with the latter two logos in my collection, and now need to hurry to grab that iconic "M". Quote From San Berdoo to Kalamazoo. There is already Minor League Baseball's Richmond Flying Squirrels. And speaking of existing names, although Walleye makes all the sense in the world for Fond du Lac, there is already a minor league hockey team in Toledo with that name. If you have a new sports team nowadays, it is beneficial to have your own, unique, own-able name.
