AgentColon2
Last time I checked the Ravens started off with a fully intact built roster made over many years. The Browns return included an expansion draft and dreadful play. The only thing that was expansion was team name and history for the Ravens. I would also love to know if Indianapolis had any development or plans for a new nickname had Modell paid the $25 million for Colts.

dont care
7 hours ago, Sykotyk said: But it is. Old Browns fan here. The team was originally announced as the Baltimore Browns when the move was official. It was the leverage of Cleveland with their stadium lease and the NFL basically agreeing to give Cleveland a new team to end the threat of endless lawsuits that the deal to keep the name, colors, and history in Cleveland. This was before ANY games were played in Baltimore because Modell had no intention of giving up the name. In fact, Cleveland already approved the building of a new stadium before the Browns even finished playing in Cleveland. The argument modell used for moving them. Which is sad because the Browns were offered a chance to be part of the Gateway Complex, but didn't want to give up the stadium he controlled for $1/year. Only when he lost the Indians rent, revenue and corporate money followed to the new Jacobs Field did he panick and demand a new stadium for the Browns. The guy was a horrible businessman. Even after moving the team he still was forced to sell 99% of the team. And only kept the 1% so he could stiff someone else on money for a finders fee for helping to find a new owner. Doesnt them originally moving as the browns until Cleveland got upset further support that they are the same team?

Are the Browns still the Browns if you replace every aspect about them, but keep the history only to restore them as a new franchise? Neither are the true Browns. Both are the true Browns.

The *only* difference is Cleveland wanted to recycle the name "Browns", while the city of Houston didn't give two sh1ts about re-using "Oilers"

The reason for this is due to the Ravens moving to DC, the WFT to Indy, The Colts are going to Cleveland, the Browns are going to Baltimore to reclaim the Baltimore Browns name and that heritage lost oh so many years ago!!!

I haven't stopped this conversation because what else is there to talk about? There is no news. The team announced a teaser, people speculated on what was in it, then there was a leak that seemed to confirm "Commanders" and a few logos. Until the team confirms this, we get more leaks, or we make it to 2 February there's nothing much else to discuss. So if people wanna discuss Cleveland football history then ok. Go for it. This whole thing will get washed away by discussions about actual news when actual news occurs. 15 Quote PotD 26/2/12 1/7/15 2020 BASS Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal Regular Season Champion 2021 BASS NFL Pick'em Regular Season Champion

So yes, the Oilers-to-Titans lineage remains because Bud Adams was a bad person, not because Houston didn't want the name "Oilers". 5 Quote the user formerly known as cdclt

Even with one year as "Tennessee Oilers", I don't believe for one second that prevented Houston from prying back "Oilers" had they wanted to. The city of Houston actually witnessed what happened with the Browns/Ravens before the Adams moved the team to Tennessee. Had Houston wanted to keep "Oilers", they would have made that "Cleveland Deal". They elected not to.
