It's a message board....  Sometimes you type things quickly and make mistakes, there's no need to be a dick about it.

Yeah. HE'S being the dick.

Bringing further, unnecessary attention to a petty grammatical error in a completely smug manner IS being a dick.  I can't STAND people that do that.

An error you fixed. He only brought attention to it when you posed the sarcastic question. Move on.

I still think it'll be Blizzard with a Yeti logo.

Not that it matters (it might), but the Green Bay Blizzard of the IFL already have that.

I'm not calling it any legal issue,  just that they may choose to not repeat it if (big if) they know about it.

It's where I sit.

I think the Black Diamonds and Blackhawks could coexist, as do the Blues and Blue Jackets, Reds and Red Sox, and arguably North Stars and Nordiques did. The Blackhawks mostly go by "Hawks" anyway, which, in addition to the Indian logo, was why "Mohawks" was a problem for what became the Scouts. No such issues with Utah.

They could always shorten it, too, and just go by "Diamonds". And if anyone thinks "Diamonds" won't work well for sports, well, here's a couple cutters to change your mind...

It's all so obvious now. Utah Black Diamonds is this team's version of Seattle Emeralds and most definitely will lose to a kitsch collective noun targeted at 12 year olds

Someone went to college for four years, earned a marketing degree, got a job with a high buck agency, and tossed that on the table.  Amazing.  Simply amazing.

These names are just based on fan suggestions to Smith's earlier open ended poll. The branding agency is just going to handle the logos/uniforms.

There are already two sabretooth tiger mascots.

There's also two lion mascots and two insect mascots, despite there not being any teams actually named after lions or insects.

Colorado doesn't use the yeti mascot anymore anyway.

I'm still sour about this. Though they inevitably would've been nicknamed the Ems, which would have some issues in that market.

As for the difference between Black Diamonds-Blackhawks and Reds-Red Sox and Blues-Blue Jackets:

- The Reds and Red Sox names were coined in a different era.
- Blackhawks and Black Diamonds can both be two words; unlike Blues and Blue Jackets. There could be more overlap with the Blackhawks and Black Diamonds.

Nor should they.  That mascot always looked silly.  Still, the footprint was a great shoulder patch.

It's a mascot. Silly isn't exactly a deal-breaker.

As someone who moved from the UK to the USA and has observed sports culture closely in both, it should not be a surprise that the most likely name is something aimed at kids. The whole sports environment here is family oriented with even the chants being something kids can easily learn ("Let's go insert team, let's go" is the best example) and childlike traditions like the waving white flags/handkerchiefs/towels as a sign of hostility rather than realizing it is the universal symbol of surrender. I think it is charming, and it hooks the young'uns. The names are often bold and "dangerous" but something kids will love.

Sports culture in the UK, though kids are still involved, is much more tribal, though I do actually prefer the nicknames there, as they are quirky instead of aggressive. Some are professions historical to that area (Hatters, Brewers, Glovers, Cobblers, Chairboys), some are harmless creatures (Canaries, Bluebirds, Magpies), and some are just bizarre (Grecians, Toffees, Cherries, Addicks). It is actually a little surreal for such gentle names to be attached to an aggressive, tribal culture, while here in the States there are super aggressive names attached to a much more family friendly environment - though with the latter, the aggressive names still tend to be attractive to kids as I said above (Hawks, Bears, Wolves etc.).

In a world with Gritty I say lets have it. The big foot logo added some character to their identity, something that I feel is a bit lacking for them currently.

Without question.  It was one of those logos that looked completely unremarkable in print but incredible embroidered.   The current shoulder patches, while appropriate, are extremely bland.  I especially don't like them on the road jersey because you have a mainly burgundy logo on a burgundy background resulting in very little contrast.  Making the 'C' slate blue on that jersey would go a long way.
