SEG over-promised and under-delivered; nothing new here.

Well then…🧐

My votes:

Mammoth

Mountaineers

Swarm

Black Diamonds

I’m confident enough in Yetis and Outlaws that they’ll make it past this first round.

I was expecting a more generic look for this first season, but they’ve got to at least have some color. I’ll be pretty bummed if we don’t at least have some level of, say, Purple or Light Blue.

Of course, I won’t be very happy if after all of this, we end up with a basic Black/White color scheme. (And no, using the name “Black Diamonds” does not give you an excuse to do that, Ryan! You can still use plenty of purple, light blue, copper, etc. on a black base.)

The other option for Black Diamonds (if Chicago takes exception to the name) is to just go with Diamonds and use plenty of black for that (again, not an excuse to not integrate some Purple/Light Blue/Copper/etc.)

Finishing typing thoughts because the page spontaneously combusted, also Diamonds

This owner has terrible taste in sports names god damn. It's 2024 and this dude is suggesting "Blast" and "Frost"

It's my understanding that these are the top suggestions from his last survey asking what they should name the team if they got one

I don't know what you all are talking about. I just finished an icy can of Mountain Dew Utah Blast and it was terrific.

A cursory look around the internet suggests that Mammoth, Yetis, Outlaws, and Black Diamonds are going to be tough to beat.

I also like yeti's and glaciers. Canyons can have a good color scheme but the name is meh.

I'm just glad they're getting the fans input and not forcing something on us. If we pick something stupid it's our fault.

Swarm is growing on me too.  Yetis I am back and forth on.  On one hand, the logo possibilities seem like they would be amazing.  On the other hand, Yetis plural just seems weird.

Just popped into this thread to say that all the singular name options are horrible and that trend should be killed with fire.

I just saw that the final list had Yeti with no “s” at the end.  It’s now Outlaws or bust as far as I’m concerned after thinking about it for 2 additional minutes since my last post.

Everyone voting for Black Diamonds (I liked it too originally) realize the entire team name and brand would be a different winter sport altogether right? Like imagine a professional hockey team named the skiers with a logo of someone skiing. I can’t get past that.

They can also work in the coal mining aspect. That's what they did with the rookie league baseball team in the city I grew up in southern Alberta. And Utah apparently ranks 12th in the U.S. in coal production.

I’m personally fine with that. There’s enough of an interconnection with skating and skiing for it to be passable imo. The lines are blurred enough for me to overlook the finer details. And I don’t even think it has to be a straight connection to skiing/boarding, but a more broad representation of winter sports as a whole. And not many locales can do that without it coming across weird and out of place, IMO. Salt Lake City definitely can with its recent history with winter sports.

Wouldn't the BLACKHawks have a problem with Black Diamonds?

I guess Black Diamond Equipment (with HQ in Utah) would have bigger problem with Black Diamonds than Blackhawks however I voted for that name along with: Hive, Mountaineers and Glaciers.

I disagree.  The Avalanche and Lightning are great names and I've never understood what is so objectionable about 'Wild' either.

Black Diamonds would be a great choice.

Even if it would result in the misguided and annoying insistence from a vocal minority that  they use black jerseys.

They are replacing a team that wore black jerseys at home, so it pretty much evens out. And given that we're getting generic 'UTAH' jerseys next season, I'd expect them to be black.

I mean the Indiana Pacers are a basketball team who's brand is based around auto racing.

I voted for Caribou. I think there could be some good unique branding opportunities there, and not so much "minor league" sounding.

I like Utah Caribou as well - dedicated fans would be the 'Bou Birds.

Utah Outlaws would be better than most of the others too.

Really wish they offered Utah Mammoths instead of Mammoth - seen some pretty great Mammoths concepts on IG.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.
