Weird Question About Cities and Logos

I've noticed that all the Pro Pittsburgh teams have a Black and Gold combination: Steelers, Penguins, Pirates. Exceptions are the use of Red by the Pirates and old blue sweaters of the Penguins.

Also, all most of the Pro Franchises in Atlanta are Birds: Hawks, Thrashers, Falcons. The exception I can think of is the Braves but the Braves didn't originate in Atlanta. But I don't think the Thrashers did so that puts a hole in that theory.

Anyway, does this happen anywhere else. Where all the Major sports teams share the same color or the same type of mascot.

Well, the Thrashers did orginate in Atlanta they were an expansion team. Both the Caps and Wizards use the same colors however the redskins don't.

When Ted Turner owned the Braves, he submitted a proposal to the league to rename the team the Eagles, so all the teams would be birds.

The Thrashers were named a bird on purpose for this reason.

Ted said he'd help buy an MLS franchise if they could be named a bird.

Ted is a bird brain.

"Ted is a bird brain. "

You think so?

In fact, didn't the Braves used to be blackish/redish/whitish? And the Flames were yellowish/redish/blackish..right?

I mean..that would work.

The Atlanta Flames were red, yellow/gold & white--the black was introduced several years after the team moved to Calgary...

Speaking of which--most pro teams based in Calgary have used red as a primary colour--although secondary, tertiary, etc colours have varied...

I don't know many other North American cities where the pro teams share colors or team "themes". Many WNBA teams were given similar colors and shapes to their NBA counterparts, but I think it was intentional for the purpose of the cross-promotion of both teams during the other's season.

In Boston/New England, the Red Sox, Patriots and Revolution are all red, white and blue (the Patriots and Revolution share an owner and a stadium).

In New York, the Mets, Knicks and Islanders are all blue and orange, and the Mets and Knicks also have black.

There are many cities where at least two of the pro teams share the same color scheme, but I don't know many that share the same theme.

Some arena football teams have a similar name to their NFL counterpart. Like the Colorado Crush.

The Thrashers were named a bird on purpose for this reason.

The brown thrasher is also the state bird of Georgia. That was also helpful in extending Turner's "bird-brain" mentality...

every sports team in Dallas has a star on the uniforms somewhere...

the dallas stars, obviously.

the dallas cowboys, obviously.

the dallas mavericks have one in the logo, and above the names on the home and road uniforms, as well as on the collar of the alternate jersey.

the texas rangers have stars in their logos.

FC Dallas has one in their crestand are rumored to have more elsewhere in their kits.

dallas desperados logo uses a star.

texas tornado junior hockey is a tornado/star hybrid.

even the dallas dragons women's football team has a star in the logo, and the failed dallas americans WHA team had stars all over the uniforms, as well as in the logo (51 of them, to be exact, just in the logo)

so while it's not all the same color scheme, same animal kingdom, or rhyming names, dallas has it's own little sports logo tradition as well.

Speaking that, when Charlotte got the bobcats, the Sting changed to the same, or similar color set

The official colors of NYC are orange and blue, which explains the Knicks. Then again, the islanders don't play in the city, so maybe there is just some coincedence. The Mets took their colors from the old NL teams in NYC - blue from the Dodgers, orange from the Giants.
