Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't the NJ Devils named after a local urban legend about a cursed monster that lives in the Pine Barrens?

Also, I'm pretty sure the the Duke Blue Devils were named after a fighting regiment (but not sure what war, possibly revolutionary).

Yes, you are correct. They are named after the state legend.

I was just thinking if the Devils got Miroslov Satan this guy would be pissed. :D:D

"The team's mascot is a red, cartoonish figure with horns and a goatee."

Is there another logo the team has other than the horned "NJ" logo? I wasn't aware there was any other.

Honestly, the world must be a better place than I gave it credit for if we can waste time in our government institutions complaining about what sport teams names and monikers offend certain people.

We all have our little faults. Mine's in California.

The Devils have a strong fan base. The problem is it's fan base is a young one with most of them being under 30 and can't afford the tickets now. The Devils attendance figures will rise in the next few years especially with a new arena. Also, as of now there attendance is about the same as the Islanders but I don't here anyone saying move the Isles and they don't even have a new arena being built.

New York City can't support three teams. Move the Islanders to Portland, move the Capitals to the Atlantic Division, and put Nashville in the Southeast Division. Move Dallas to the Central, and put the Portland team in the Pacific.

I've been thinking about Satan with the Devils for years. But I guess it's fitting that Satan would be in Buffalo instead :D *runs*

Not officially other than the wordmark which just says Devils in plain font. There was a logo they used for their merchandise called Devils Den. That was a Devils head and a Skating devil.

Also this is their mascot:

The one with the big red head in the Devils Jersey.

New Jersey Transports. I think they have the most dense system of Highways and Railroads in the US...thank you Google. They also have the most diners. So maybe the New Jersey Diner Cars.

NOPE.

I like the name "Devils" and I think they should keep it. I'm religious and while I have a deep distate for the devil himself I am a big proponent against all this stuff about names being offensive or derogatory. I think we all have common sense and can figure out when a name goes too far. I don't think there's a sports nickname I've ever heard that goes too far. Some go far, but none go too far. At least that's my opinion. I think this deacon needs to get over himself and worry more about his own salvation than what some sports team is naming themselves.

Well, They were all sellouts. You can look at the boxscores for yourself. CAA holds for hockey 19,040.

When a game is a sellout all that means is that every available ticket for the game was sold, it doesn't mean that every seat will be filled. I've seen any number of NBA games including the last 5 or 6 All-Star games where the game is announced as a sellout, but it was quite obvious that there was a multitude of empty seats.

And seeing as the team has been named the Devils for 23 years, I'd say that this guy is a world class ClownAss who needs to be thrashed about the head and buttocks with a frozen haddock.

The name is not getting changed. The Devils have said there not changing it. The current Govenor said he's against the change, so any law passed would be vetoed. And the people of New Jersey don't want it to change. The name was originally selected by a public poll.

Obvisiouly this guy knows nothing about the organization. When it comes to the name, logo and uniforms they are just like the Yankees and our against any changes. Lou Lamoriello has saif many times he is against changing the Devils identity even adding an alt. He has the Devils will not take part in those gimmicks to make a few extra bucks. The organization is modeled around the great Montreal Canadiens teams, as well as the great Boston Celtics teams and their previous buisness partner the New York Yankees. So don't expect any changes as long as the current owner and Lou Lamoriello is still alive. And if they keep on winning (which they show all indications of doing when the NHL comes back) don't expect them of ever changing.

Bucfan the Catholic Killer choice was ironically funny because close to 50% of New Jersey is Catholic. ^_^

Thankfully, being that they're modeled after the great teams like the Celtics, Canadiens, and Yankees, they won't do stupid things just to boost revenue. Stupid things like adding an unnecessary alt, or changing their colors just to add black to the scheme.

Oh wait - never mind.

When they changed to Red Black and White it wasn't adding black for the sake of adding black. Black made more sense considering the team name. Plus it made the scheme better.

Yes.

The name won't change. State can't force it and it won't happen. Surprised he's just figuring this out now, what with the team being in the state this long.

That's what I always heard--and they couldn't keep the team name hen they moved to Jersey--well they could have--but New Jersey Rockies makes less sense than others--

That mascot is super goofy though--not in a good mascot goofy way--but in a lame way.

Now I'm waiting for PETA or some other group to protest against the Sharks, Panthers, Thrashers, Penguins, Ducks, Bruins, Wild, Predators, Coyotes, and even the Canucks & Capitals for abusing or taking advantage of or promoting misuse of animals!

Change them all!!! :D
