LA?

I was too lazy to read every post, but how about the LA Quakes?

...of course, it's all fun and games until that part of Cali falls into the Pacific Ocean after "the big one". Talk about a potential PR nightmare :upside:

Theres already an MLS team called the San Jose Quakes. I think that whoever mentioned the California Grizzlies was spot on. Thats perfect for a California football team. If they were to choose that, theyd instantly become one of my favorites

except that there are no grizzlies in california, if so, very few. Ca is known more for brown and black bears

When the Lakers moved from Minnesota to LA, they did not change thier name, so why should the Vikings?

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

...and it would never happen. See Chicago BEARS...

The NFL wouldn't allow a team called the Grizzlies when there's already a Bears. And, let's not forget that there's already an NBA team called the Grizzlies. No duplicating nicknames between the four major leagues (besides the Panthers, Giants, Cardinals, et al)...we don't need any more...

At least LA has the corporate base that San Antonio lacks.

It's a bit misleading to say that San Antonio "lacks" a corporate base.

The city is home to the headquarters of five Fortune 500 companies: SBC Communications, Valero Energy Corporation, United Services Automobile Association, Clear Channel Communications and Tesoro Petroleum Corporation. Both SBC (#33) and Valero (#34) generate more revenue than LA's top Fortune 500 firm, Northrup Grumman Corporation (#55). The city's corporate base is $107-million.

In point of fact, the City of Los Angeles proper is home to just three Fortune 500 firms: Northrup Grumman, Occidental Petroleum and KB Homes. Granted, Greater Los Angeles is home to numerous Fortune 500 companies... if you count firms in suburban Los Angeles County communities (i.e. Beverly Hills, Burbank, Pasadena, etc.), as well as companies in Ventura and Orange Counties. Then, "Los Angeles" firms account for a corporate base worth $202-million. Then again, if you add firms in the Austin-San Antonio corridor to San Antonio's total, the city picks up Round Rock's Dell and Austin's Temple-Inland, bringing San Antonio's corporate base total to $153-million.

Bottom line? In terms of corporate presence, San Antonio isn't the backwater burgh some folks would like to paint it as. In fact, it has more of a corporate presence than some existing NFL markets.

I suggested Bulldogs earlier. I didn't know that that also has an historical connection (AFL 2 -- 1936-37)

If I'm a new owner of the LA expansion team or I'm an owner of an existing team moving to LA, first thing I'd look at is who is the audience in the LA area. It's the Hispanic population and it's probably the majority in that area by now. If I'm a smart businessman and make millions in the Hispanic population, not to mention the potential market in Mexico, I'd name a team that they'd identify as their own.

There are 2 names I think it'd be a great fit for NFL and the Hispanic population.

i tired a white helmet with the Conquistadore on it, but it looked too much like the old bruce bucco...

Never considered the 49er problem...

there was another choice for a nickname but because of the movie and etc.. i stayed away from it. that would be Zorros since there are ties to the real Zorro and L.A.. so i guess banditos would work too.

Please tell me I'm not the only one around here who remembers the Frito Bandito -- barely, in my defense. I used to have the eraser, but it was a different color.
