Captain Poncho Posted March 21, 2007 Share Posted March 21, 2007 During the Crush game last week, they showed locker room footage for John Elway presenting Crush coach Mike Dailey with a jersey comemmorating his 100th win in Arena ball from the previous week.The jersey, which had the number 100 on it was a reversed alternate of what the Crush wear now for home games. It was rusted orange body, navy piping and gold shoulders.I was wondering if the Crush might be breaking this version out later in the season, and it looks at least a little more likely with the addition of our first alternate jersey in the AFL. Consider that this is likely to be worn with an all-red helmet and navy pants with red striping, and the odds are very favorable that this is gonna be a mess. The Avengers should have never strayed from their original look of red, royal blue, and yellow.And I'm in complete agreement, Reppact. The screened numbers look cheap and horrid. And I've already gone off on my tear about the loss of several team-specific number fonts elsewhere on this board. Also, I was at the Rush-Dragons game on Sunday, and noticed that some plyayers had a horizontal cross on the "2," while others had a diagonal. Same with the "1" - some had a straight diagonal top serif, and others had it curved. Can't even use the same standard block font for all of one team's uniforms - another sign of how little Russell gives a crap about their exclusive AFL contract.I will offer one positive, though: Russell is offering a wide selection of replica jerseys - at least in the arena. I've seen 3 (both blue and white,) 10, 23, 37, 44, and 99 in the new style in the stands. No names on the back though - guess the AFL doesn't want to part with any of that revenue to the players' union. However, go to a Chicago-area Champs Sports, the alleged official retailer of the AFL, and good luck finding any jerseys outside of "DITKA 89." Yeah, that's just what I want to pick up, as a Packers and Rush fan who has a functioning brain and knows better than the hype that Mike Ditka "owns" the team. I own a first or second-season replica, and the jersey is red with royal blue side panels, outlined in thick yellow piping. IIRC, the pants striping lined up with the side panels. But in 2003, with the advent of the NBC deal and Reebok outfitting the Avengers, yellow disappeared from the uni - save for the logos, royal blue got replaced with navy and light blues, and the blue facemask became red.I'm not suggesting a yellow alternate; in fact, nobody in this thread did. But if L.A. was going to do an alt, they should have gone with navy. Otherwise, as BigBrain pointed out, with its light blue body and navy sleeves, it's a Kats jersey. LA picked the most obscure color in their scheme...and made a jersey. To anyone viewing these, it will definitely look like an equipment manager's mistake rather than an official outfit....at one time...at least...the Avengers' logo had a small snippet of an camo green color....which was used as a shadow color for the gold on the head of the Avenger. Be happy they didn't use THAT as the jersey color.
