Cujo
Dreadful. The Pads had matching lids for retro day last season. Why couldn't they just break them out again this year?...
darkshadow1031
These throwbacks are usually not made to specifications like the normal jersey sets are, which is the reason for the more "retail" type fit. Very few guys wear jerseys w/o modifications anymore. As for the game itself, the Tribe didn't quite capture that 70s feeling at the ballpark, besides the final outcome of the game. Cubs/Braves seems like the new standard to be upheld. You are exactly correct on why specialty jerseys (for things like throwback games) look different! In my experiences, a team orders the jerseys way ahead of time then has the numbering/lettering done closer to the game. Then they are pretty much taken out of the box the night before and hung in the lockers, allowing for little to no time for alterations. Yes, players will make their own pre-game personal modifications but its nothing compared to the custom tailoring that is done throughout the year. Anyway, TheStoicPaisano, this is just my expanded commentary to a statement that you already got exactly correct. 2002-2006 ALUMNI 2007-2009

Cubs/Braves seems like the new standard to be upheld. What is so special about the Cubs and Braves that makes them the benchmark? A throwback to me shouldn't have to fit into a frame. It's looking back at historical uniforms that were worn at significant times hence the Tampa Bay Rays having to wear the uniform of some bush league start up that never made it two seasons. My comment about Braves/Cubs was more about the experience as a whole. Not being there, but being at Progressive Field last night, I didn't get the vibe that the Tribe was into the promotion. As discussed in the Cubs thread, they went all out with the retro TV graphics, retro concession prices, Pepsi vendors in 40s gear. It's a clear difference in philosophy from the Indians' vendors and their highlighter yellow shirts. The Indians jersey + block C cap I have no problem with and would prefer it over the blue alternate they have now.
buckeyes
Dreadful. The Pads had matching lids for retro day last season. Why couldn't they just break them out again this year?...I was thinking the exact same thing. I actually attended this game and sat right next to the Padres bullpen. I personally thought that the Padres looked like a college/high school baseball team and the Indians just looked like they were color blind becuase the blues didn't match. There were many fishy things about this game. The Padres wore different batting helmets. The backs of their caps did not feature the MLB logo. All of the players in the bullpen were wearing the navy blue warmup sweaters. And I'm not sure if it was Bell or Hoffman but one of the two was wearing a camo undershirt (Padre issued i'm sure for their camo night). Very funky things. On a side note, I cannot seem to find the hat that the Padres were wearing last night to buy anywhere. Lids has a similar one but nothing authentic. -The Few, The Proud, The Paint Users.-

Yeah, just don't ask him to actually send you one. I tried buying a few off him back when the old 59/50's were phased out, asked him where to send a check to pay him for them, and it's still sitting here on my desk nearly 18 months later! skizum1
even though the times for Cleveland fans were tough during the time they wore this uniform....I like 'em.i just hate that they don't adapt the batting helmets for the event as well. what is with the half ass throw back night? Eesh, yeah, that was definitely my bad. I bought the caps and put off sending them. Then I moved and simply forgot. A few weeks ago I was packing some old hats now that I have more room and found a bunch that were a size two big, and it hit me that I never sent those. Lame excuse I know, but if you wanna resend me your address via PM I'll ship those out (And now that I'm in a stable situation, and actually have money to ship) to you. But for all you fans of the Padres '78 uniforms, get ready because next Friday night vs. Seattle both teams will be sporting their 1978 garb! tmorss9
Just the Negro League tribute Detroit Stars uniforms are the only ones worn at home. I think they wear those once a year, generally the pinstriped ones. I think they've only worn the solid white ones once. It would be interesting to see them break out a set from 1905 or so.On the road, I know they were in the throwback game in Cleveland last year. "Hats for bats. Keep bats warm. cranium
Didn't the Tigers do a game against Boston a few years ago in 1909 unis or so? They had collars on their jerseys as I recall.
