2008 MLB All-Star Game

Dear Mitch Williams (since he said this after today's Phils game)

Ryan Howard should not be an All-Star this year, he strikes out too much.

Yet he has 25 HRs (Tied for 1st)

and 57 Runs (#5)

and 80 RBI (#1)

I'm not sure about his errors, but offensively, he's damn good.

I'll be honest, there is no deserving Phillie for this year's All-Star team. There is NEVER a deserving Phillie for the All-Star team (and I'm a Phillies fan). Trust me, I'd rather see Dan Uggla in at 2nd. Perhaps they can bat Utley 9th and make a defensive sub, letting Uggla in at the bottom of the 1st?

(this is where I would note that had I been blessed with the talent to be a major league baseball player, I'd be ideally on a 20 year contract worth a total of $1M, with provisions that would prohibit selection for All-Star teams, as well as prohibition of accepting awards such as MVP and Cy Young, as they are pointless.)

Lets see what happens when you actually do become a MLB player! I doubt you'd take a 20 year contract with for $1 Million. Plus I highly doubt you wouldn't want an award that you "EARNED" as you called them "POINTLESS". This has got to be the worst argument yet for the Phillies and Allstar selections since Memphis not deserving to be number 1. Next thing you'll tell me is Notre Dame shouldn't even play a down because they are an Independent Football Team
$1 million over 20 years is fair payment for a major league player.
$50,000 a year??? I mean $1 Mill a year I can understand, but why $50,000? If i'm a famous man who is making the team better I think $1 Mill a year is understandable, but anymore $50,000 is Middle Class
Trust me, no team would have any problems paying one of their players $50,000 a year. It just means that I wouldn't be able to be in the Players Association, most likely, which is okay with me.

Do you work for 1/60th of the average salary for your current profession?

Josh Hamilton is putting on a freaking display in the Derby! :notworthy:

Figures, I changed the channel for a few minutes, only to turn it back, and he's got 24. Cripes.

A total of 28 home runs in the first around alone. Incredible.

wow, wow, wow. That was great!

I do hope that they let Hamilton bat in the 2nd round, so we can see the All-time record broken.

Someone like A-Rod or Barry Bonds would skip the second round if they were in this situation, but Hamiltion isn't a total douche. He'll put on another show for the fans in Round 2.

But, will Hamilton have enough in the tank for Round 2? I mean, he cranked out 28 homers in the first round, how many more can you expect in the second round before he tires out and starts to lag.

That was insane. There were two that I actually thought were gonna leave the park altogether. He hit like 2 miles worth of home runs, thats incredible.

Well it's official. Josh Hamilton is the modern day un-roided out anti Bonds/McGwire/Sosa non wind aided BEAST of a slugger. It proves to me once and for all that you CAN be a monster of a hitter without the use of performance enhancers. And if you still have any doubt, dude gets drug tested every other day.

I think I can say this without much hesitation...

Roy Hobbes aint got :censored: on Josh Hamilton.

Did Joe Morgan really just compare Josh Hamilton's drug problem to Ted Williams going off to war? I'm glad the guy got his life straightened out, he is a heck of a player, but that might just be a tad over zealous on Mr. Morgan's part.

Not to mention Rick Riley's statement that MLB should have stuck a token minority player in the Derby in place of a more deserving home run hitter.

That guy is an :censored: ing idiot.

How great would it be if MLB was like WWF, and right after the last "round" was completed, the lights went off, music hits, and out comes A-Rod, Ryan Howard, or some other masher and the "winner" of the derby finds out he has to go through that secret person to really win?

Unless I completely missed the statement, I think he just meant the amount of time he missed.

Wow, Hamilton went ice cold and lost to Morneau in the final round.

He put on a great show, but him not winning is pretty disappointing.
