I wouldn't be mad at all if the Fathers reverted back to that scheme. But it also wouldn't faze me either way, seeing as to how, in my mind, I've already resigned the brown and yellow color scheme to Wyoming University Athletics.

Ahh, nostalgia. The killer of nice, clean looks from Milwaukee to San Diego.

Nah. It's selling out a team's visual identity for a couple dollars that killed the nice clean looks in Milwaukee and San Diego. :P

.

"Hey, fans! Remember the '70s, when nobody in this town gave a flying crap about the Padres, and the team damn near moved to Washington? Well, those days are back!"

Outside of the home plate logo, I see no reason to screw with what the Padres are wearing now, especially in favor of some half-assed modern/retro hybrid. Put the friar on the sleeves of the current home and road jerseys - done.

My favorite padres look is the short-lived brown and orange. (85 to maybe 88?). I'd take that back. Otherwise, I hope they just stay the same.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

As a kid, the brown and orange reminded me too much of the Giants black and orange.

If it were my call, I'd take what the have now, change navy blue to brown, make the current shade of gold more yellow-toned, and keep the sky blue as a slightly used accent.

The Padres' current set isn't perfect. They wear the navy shirts with khaki pants far too often, which makes them look like recreational dads. When the road jerseys appear on players rather than milk cartons, the bowtie-shaped "San Diego" script is hideous. The hat with the white SD (as opposed to beige SD trimmed in white) is completely extraneous. The camouflage alternate exists. Glaring flaws all, but the package can still be salvaged without scuttling the whole thing in favor of the disgusting brown and yellow stuff from the old days that people associate with the Padres being kinda good, but actually weren't really.

For better or worse, the Padres have abandoned having anything to do with fat Catholics in their art direction, and replaced it with being pleasant and pretty. I think it's a smart move: the city of San Diego is pleasant and pretty, as is their new park, and I'm sure as are a lot of their fans. So they're really just about San Diego, not Padres, and that's fine. It's more inclusive, and it looks very nice and modern as well. The Padres not being a charter member of the National League, they have a little more room to try modern looks that the Cubs, Cardinals, Braves, and Dodgers can't and/or shouldn't. Brown and yellow (with the occasional orange) is a garish color combination that screams 1970s in a bad way: it makes me think of shag-carpeted paneled rec rooms in suburban split-level houses. Speaking of the '70s, the Brewers were mentioned as another modern look that's unfairly falling by the wayside, but I disagree: anyone who has passed through Milwaukee knows if any city's ball team should represent being 25 years behind everyone else, well.

Or the White Sox. Before they went back to black and white, they used every color in the book at one point or another as well.

But I think the current look is just fine. Of course there are flaws, but all in all, it's not a bad looking set.

Actually, the White Sox pretty much stuck to navy and red for most of their existence, except maybe a two-year dalliance with royal blue. The uniform designs were all over the place, though.

I love the yellow and brown look. To me, the Padres are the only team that could switch to those colors and keep them for more than two years (which is a bit of a shame, personally). I mean, I don't hate the current set (love the road), but I believe they should really think about at least switching the navy for brown, if not a full color change. I'm not asking for a rebrand, just a recolor.

There's nothing seriously wrong with their current look. The brown and yellow/orange looks is alright, but their current look is definitely better in my opinion. If they would just do something about those hideous sand colored away uniforms, they'd be just fine the way they are.

I think that the Padres should go back to brown. Their current look isn't bad, but the first thing I see is color, and there are numerous MLB teams that wear navy blue in one form or another. Add to that fact that the Dodgers are just up the road, and the Padres going blue certainly doesn't make them stand out. They'd be the only MLB team wearing brown, instantly making them pop out.

If they kept their design and replaced the navy with brown, made the sand just a little more goldish (yellow), and replaced the light blue trim (where is it on the uniforms, anyways?) with orange, then they'd look pretty good. However, they'd need to replace their homeplate logo, as last time I checked, the Pacific Ocean isn't brown, gold, or orange (but I could be wrong).

Or maybe they could just wear brown and orange; I liked the mid-late 1980's look, too.
