The Cornucopia of Possible NBA Logo Changes

Looks like the adidas Power Web has been integrated into the new unis.

No, it hasn't. The PowerWEB is a feature used to provide extra support on compression-fit garments. Wouldn't make sense to use it on a loose-fitting jersey (it wouldn't function properly).

I still don't have a website, but I have a dribbble now! http://dribbble.com/andyharry

It wouldn't make sense for Nike to give teams a different colored sleeve to promote their compression shirts which, for some reason, had a different color sleeve, either. But both were done for marketing other products.

Comparing the business and marketing philosophies of adidas and Nike is like comparing apples and oranges. They're very different.

Not sure if this is the place to put this, but oh well.

Anyone pick up one of the new NBA replicas yet? I went to pick up an old Lebron Cavs jersey at discount this weekend, and found that getting a new Heat replica was actually CHEAPER than an out dated swingman from last year  And the new jerseys aren't bad either. The material kind of reminds me of soccer jerseys, and the screen printing seems to be quite a bit stronger. I like em, anyone else get one yet?

More like comparing navel oranges to blood oranges.

Same fruit, different details.

I mostly disagree. Compare how many prime time spots or print ads you see adidas pay for compared to how many prime time ads you see being bought by Nike and Under Armour. Heck, I bet there's barely an adidas section in your local Dick's Sporting Goods back to school catalog. adidas relies very little on marketing compared to its competitors. Reebok, its own subsidiary, probably spends more on advertising, especially since they've launched all their specialty toning shoes.

But all this is really irrelevant. There's no PowerWEB bands on the NBA jerseys. Because it wouldn't make any sense to put them there. Because they wouldn't come even remotely close to doing what they're supposed to, which is provide extra support to large muscle groups. It's a baselayer/compression-fit feature. Works on undershirts and football pants, not on a basketball jersey.

Damn. I really like the Magic's alt. I just hope they do a better job of lining up the side panels this year then they have the last 2 years. They never seem to line up. The bottom side of the shorts seam to wrinkle up as well.

I don't know how to post pictures, but check out the Celtics uniforms, from the recent photos of the rookie shoot as well as on NBA.com. Is it just me or does the wordmark on the jerseys look HUGE?

Forgive me in advance if this has already been mentioned somewhere else and I just missed it.

I would have liked to see the Magic mix it up a little bit on the alt rather than go the predictable route, but I like that a black uni with pinstripes is back. Probably should have never left. Are they going to keep this identity for more than 5 years? If not, this alt will have a short shelf life.

And the new mesh on the numbers seems pointless, but I'm sure it makes them a certain percentage lighter. :) I don't mind the mesh pattern on the jerseys so much because they had it in the old days.

The new uniforms are a slimmer, more fitted cut, which probably makes the wordmarks look larger even if they aren't any larger, physically.

I for one am glad the Magic went the predictable route. Mixing it up has kinda gone too far in sports, the NBA being the biggest offenders. Plus isn't the idea of "Mixing it up" basically what started the whole throwback craze?

If by "mixing it up" you mean major deviations in the design of the jersey & not just the colors, then I would disagree that the NBA has been a big offender. The only recent NBA alternates to do that are the Celtics, Grizzlies, Bucks, Hornets (Mardi Gras), & Jazz. Sure the Kings & Wizards did a few years ago but those were short-lived alternates. Otherwise, NBA teams have kept alternate jersey design consistent with their home/away sets: Hawks, Bulls, Nuggets, Pistons, Warriors, Pacers, Lakers, Heat, Nets, Magic, Suns, Blazers, & Raptors.
