It is possible to be aesthetically innovative while showcasing your school colors.

It's going to be a crying shame when Oregon pulls the upset and the greatest moment in the school's sports history is in highlighter yellow and gray. At least, that would bug me if I were an Oregon alum/student/fan. If you're an Oregon alum/student/fan and you're okay with it then that's fine, I think you're weird for not being irked by it, but it's still okay.

Uniform Opinions are subjective. Perhaps I'll put that in my sig as a reminder to everyone.

I am an alumni. And it just doesn't irk me. Maybe I've been brainwashed by Nike for too long. I took one look at that new BCS jersey and thought "Awesome". I'm excited to wear the neon yellow on the biggest stage in college football. I'm excited for the whole country to see our "look". I'm super excited to get a chance to knock of an SEC team led by a Heisman trophy winner. As long as the team has an O on its helmet and a trophy in its hands, I'll be a happy guy. WTD. Go Ducks.

I hope I still feel the same way when I look back on this in 50 years.

And for those who say we aren't wearing school colors, I ask what color is the O on the helmet? What color is the number trim? What color are the shoes and socks? Looks yellow to me.

This is EXACTLY the look I wanted for the national title game. Biggest game in school history and we're showing every 18 year old recruit in the country how f-ing bad ass we look.

I'm pretty sure Oregon has more than one school color.

And if recruits are all about how f-ing badass teams look...I'm surprised SEC teams are in title games at all. You'd think Oregon would be in every one of them.

Point is, recruits choose good football programs (with wealthier boosters and hotter/sluttier recruit hostesses) over the laundry they wear.

Point well taken, and yes I do think that Oregon will be in quite a few national title games to come. We have a great program headed by one of the hottest coaches in the country. We also have THE greatest booster in the country and some damn hot females. If thats all it takes, pencil in Oregon for the next 10 or so title games. Moron.

I think T. Boone Pickens is twice the booster that Phil Knight is. And I doubt your females hold a candle to the girls at USC or any of the girls in the SEC. But thanks for calling me a moron - true class. And by the way, you're an alumnus, not an alumni, so I guess it's better to look f-ing badass than sound halfway intelligent... But I'm the moron, I guess. Thanks.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

McCarthy and maybe someone else have made the best point so far in this thread. I think it would be a shame if the images of Oregon's first national title were of them wearing carbon and highlighter yellow. I like how Oregon has a bunch of uniform combinations. I like how they change their uniforms more than anyone else. I like that they've established themselves as the team with "out there" uniforms. But when you're playing for a national championship, that's the time to wear your best uniform. And for the Ducks, it's sticking to green and gold. Not only do I not like that they're not wearing school colors, but the uniforms that they're wearing look so much worse than when they wear green and gold. The green-white-green combination is one of the best looks in college football right now. Paired with Auburn's uniforms, it would be a great looking title game. It's just too bad that Oregon has to ruin it by wearing their carbon.

I'm a student and all I'll say is the only thing I wanted was to have the team wear the green helmet. They could have done anything else so long as they had the green helmet. I'm disappointed in the helmet choice but I do think it looks like a good uniform and I do want one of the white jerseys in commemoration of the event.

Paul Lukas nails this whole neon-green thing as a Nike-specific branding initiative, sort of a guerrilla takeover of Oregon's identity and replacing it with Nike's, an initiative which is being played out across multiple sports:

Neon green a Nike thing, not an Oregon thing

This line is particularly telling, one which I think some of our more enthusiastic Oregon fanatics might do well to ponder:

So those poor saps at Oregon are getting played: They don?t even get to look uniquely stupid ? instead they?re just one small part of a giant stupid agenda.

I am an Oregon fan, and yes, I would like to see the usual Green or Yellow instead of the highlighter color, but I think the BCS uni looks badass and as long as they win the game, I could care less.

Here's a thought, TCU apparently isn't wearing the combo they showed in this press conference, is it possible Oregon might pull a similar trick?

possible but it sure would make nike look stupid considering that they held a press conference to show off 4 uniforms and have a 50% failure rate.

seriously though gray and white with a highlighter outline is so boring...it almost reminds me of a color scheme for night jogging to keep you from becoming roadkill

I personally like the look that Oregon is going with in the National Championship game. They look a lot like the Oakland Raiders, but the Raiders don't look bad. The neon green puzzles me though. At least when TCU unveiled the red stripes on their helmet they said it was for blood shooting out of the eyes of horned frogs or something strange like that. Kind of a weak excuse, but at least they tried to justify it. Is Nike even bothering to try and justify the neon green beyond saying :censored: you all, were Nike?

BTW I understand that the saying has been a widely accepted misconception for years, but neon GREEN is such an amazingly stupid term. Neon glows red, not green.

Bottom line right there.

Kind of missing out on the point of the forum.

Hence my use of the term "highlighter yellow." I have a photocopy of an article on my desk, and I've highlighted the important bits with a yellow highlighter. It's petty much the same colour scheme Oregon's going with for this game.

I don't really have an opinion on Nike and their uniform designs. Some call it modern. Some call it an attack against tradition.

However...school colors are school colors. Do what you want with the uniform, but don't invent new colors for the sake of doing it.

I posted this on the 2010 College Uniform thread but since Virginia Tech is in a BCS bowl I will post it here. This is the rumored helmet they are wearing for the Orange Bowl

Looks legit, especially because the stripes strangely taper off like the white helmets worn sporadically this year:

I prefer the white helmets, though I'm predisposed to dislike all things Chokie as a UVa. grad.

No, it is not possible. And Nike is not pleased with TCU. They are now trying to add purple to fix the problem.

I'm not sure about that. Volt has been a nike color since at least 2006.

Exactly his point. Nike has shamelessly outfitted the Ducks in uniforms that reflect Nike, not the University of Oregon. The Ducks have been played.

Has Nike forgotten that they're supposed to be outfitting the University to the University's liking, not the other way around?
