Bills confirm new uniform for 2011

Would love to see the Bills break out the blue pants at some point (and i think they will) but even the white/white looks sharp imo. Is it a little boring? probably but it's much classier looking than their last road threads. I like that Buffalo returned to the white helmets and REALLY like that they are emphasizing royal blue again. The royal blue, red & white is just Buffalo Bills football to me.. Not that navy and nickel crap...

Yeah, obviously, any team with an actual insert (colts, vikings, rams), but those are generally at the shoulder, where a seem already appears. I guess I'm taliing about the old school sleeve wrap-around stripe... which we see less and less of now anyway. So, its:

9ers, Bears, Packers, Giants, Cowboys, Bills - Screened-on.

Lions, Browns, Steelers - Knit.

Redskins, Chiefs - either, depending on the sleeve cut.

These are guesses, though. If anybody knows otherwise, I'd like to know.

I guess I didn't count the Chiefs or Redskins - if they don't have the screened-on stripes they have a separate knitted cuff. It's not woven into the jersey like the Lions, Browns and Steelers. I guess when it comes down to it the Steelers were the only team to never switch from woven-in stripes to screened-on stripes at some point in their history.

An oddity was the Jets jerseys when they first switched to the green helmet in the 70s - their first jerseys didn't have woven-in stripes but they had sewn-on stripes. I don't know if they were sewn on or if the sleeve itself was 5 separate pieces. Later they switched to screened-on stripes.

Oh, yeah... I remember that now. Weird. Kinda surprising that didn't chatch on. I think quite a few hockey teams did that with their striping.

Blue pants or not...it could be a long season. Time to join the "Hope the Bills Suck Enough to Draft Andrew Luck" club

"Suck to Luck!" is a pretty good chant.

Hey! The Redskins started the Suck for Luck campaign! But that's only our BECK up plan.

If I was Andrew Luck, I would pull a Eli Manning and refuse to play for them.

These would look so much better if they hadn't tried to cram navy blue into the uniform. It's really only noticeable on the numbers, but it does enough to muddle the look to bother me.

If they stick with the white on white, Here is a rough idea form the Bills' past that the blue socks would look much better in the all white set.

09000d5d811d142f_gallery_600.jpg

I'm sure that mostly everyone knows how the look would be with bluer socks. We played the Titans (Oilers) twice in 2009 with the white throwbacks, and the season opener on MNF at New England, so everyone has seen that look. They looked great, better than they did back in the day, even when the cameras were zoomed out. I think the black shoes helped.

Changing to a more blue set of socks would be an improvement no doubt .... but this white-white-white just isn't working with these new uniforms as it did with the throwbacks. When the TV cameras are zoomed out they're just too white. At the very least it would be great to see them change it up like the Rams do, at least wear the blue away pants during the season opener at KC, then everyone could make a much better assessment.

BTW, that photo you posted was taken in OJ's rookie season at Houston. Oilers won the game 28-14, I remember watching on TV, and it was a 4 o'clock game and we missed the opening kickoff because the earlier game on NBC ended after 4 pm and back then they didn't break away in the home market. For some reason the AFL had the Bills vs Oilers scheduled twice, home & away over a 3 week period.

. . .

The BILLS looked great tonight in the new home uniforms.

If they really insist on the white-white-white for road games instead of breaking out the blue pants which we all know they have, at least change the socks to the ones worn tonite to give the new roadies some color.

Would love to see them break out the blue pants for the opener in KC.

Nice come-from-behind win after being down by an 8 point deficit toward the end of regulation to win it in OT on a 42 year FG ......

Uniform-wise, what a difference a year makes. Nice ..... thumbsup.gif

If you don't dial it down a notch I'm gonna start calling you BluePantsSky.

. .

Yea, I know ..... my bad!!

I assure you I'm not in the minority on that one tho' ... both Bills chat boards have endless blue away pants threads.

The new home uniform looks superb, they look like the Bills again .... It just kills me when I look at them quadruple white roadies and it looks so .... so .... blah!!

I will forever remember the season opener at New England in '73 like it was yesterday, when they unexpectedly came out in blue away pants for the first time ever. It was the greatest improvement they had ever made to this very day. This all-white just doesn't work with these uniforms like it did with the AFL-50 throwbacks in 2009.

Okay ............... I'll now put it to a rest... 47_47.gif

The blue jerseys with the blue socks are definitely their superior set. Those look fantastic. I like how the sleeves match the socks and the helmet stripe matches the pants stripe. It gives it more continuity throughout the uniform than the all white uniform.

Plus, the navy blue is hidden more by the royal blue on these jerseys. It does less to muddle the identity than it does in the same places on the white jerseys.

I love the home set. It looks good because it has the look of the standing buffalo throwbacks yet it still kinda has the feel of their super bowl set. Something about the stripes just brings me back to watching Wade Phillips look absolutely dumbfounded after the Music City Miracle. I like their home set almost as much as I hate the road set.

The sleeves don't technically match the socks. From far away they look like they have two white stripes surrounded by red. However, they have the blue color at the top, then blue stripes with red outlines surrounded by white on both sides. You can tell on the close-up photo. It's as if they took a sleeve off the white jersey are sewed it under the blue on the socks. Also, you can see where the ribbing ends on the socks - that is where color/stripes normally start on socks. The stripes are so high because they planned to have the blue stripes surrounded by white (with blue on top). I don't know why the Bill did this, but it's the reason the socks they wore with the white jerseys looked like crap - they had white on top, but the striping pattern matches the blue sleeves. If these socks had the top part white, they would perfectly match the white jerseys. If the socks they wore with the white jerseys had blue on the top, they would perfectly match the blue jerseys.

Finally figured out what was bugging me with the new uniforms. There needs to be some white between the red and blue. They just don't mix together well and would look tons better with some white separating them. Look at the before/after on the helmets/pants on these below. Don't you think it looks better with some white inbetween?
