mania
Just heard that Placido Polanco will be replaced in the All Star Game by Pablo Sandoval. Not sure he'd be the first pick to replace Polanco, but I knew Bochy would find a way to get at least one of his fielders there. I'm certainly not complaining Managers don't pick replacements. It's whoever finished next in the players vote for that position. Off The Top Rope: A Pro Wrestling Podcast
Dexter Morgan
The fact that the winner of All-Star game effects home field advantage in the World Series is outrageous. Besides maybe 1st time All-Stars, players don't give a crap about the game.
Dexter Morgan
I believe I read today that CC who should of been on the team from the start replaced Shields on the team, and since both of them pitched today, someone will have to reaplce CC, looks like it will be Ogando from the Rangers. And David Robertson replaced David Price. Musical chairs. I wonder how many players this year all the together and now considered 2011 All-Stars. scottysprings
Is it just me or are an unusually high number of players are backing out of the All-Star game this season? Also, if a player gets selected as a replacement player but he himself has to be replaced does he get recognized as a 2011 All-Star? I don't know if it's true or not being I haven't found anything online confirming it, but during today's game Michael Kay said that being James Shields was pitching today he'd be inactive for the All-Star game and that C.C. Sabathia would take his spot, but that he would also have to be replaced because he was pitching today. Does C.C. get recognized as a 2011 All-Star? Dexter Morgan
With A-Rod getting knee surgery, and expected to be out 4-6 weeks, his streak of 13 straight seasons with at least 30 HR/100 RBI is in serious danger.
The_Admiral
I was never wildly in favor of it because the American League was winning every year and the American League sucks, but I didn't 100% hate the home field advantage gimmick. Now that we're sitting here, gearing up for the 2011 MLB Pro Bowl, it's indefensibly ridiculous and should be the next thing pulled out of this farce. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Besides maybe 1st time All-Stars, players don't give a crap about the game.On this we agree. The "home-field advantage" nonsense is nothing but a knee-jerk reaction to Bud Selig's public humiliation at the '02 All-Star Game. When he dies, I hope this farce dies along with it. For that matter, kill the All-Star Game itself. It's a relic rendered doubly irrelevant by nonstop national cable television coverage and the continued growth of interleague play, which may become a season-long affair next year. And it gives Chris Berman a national showcase to be at his most bloviating and cliched with his pants around his ankles. The only thing worthwhile to come out of any recent All-Star Game is Ichiro's traditional pregame speech, and we don't get to see or hear any of that. The_Admiral
Remember that time Mark Redman made the all-star team because he was the least putrid Royal? BBTV
On of the unintended benefits of my move to center city was not having to worry about traffic going to games anymore. BSL FTW.Anyway, we learned seven things this weekend:1. Roy Halladay is very good.2. Cliff Lee is very good.3. Cole Hamels is very good.4. Tommy Hanson is very good.5. Brandon Beachy is very good.6. What's left of the Phillies' bullpen is very good.7. The Braves' bullpen is very good. And while he didn't pitch, we already know that8. Jair Jurrjens is very good. But one thing we didn't really learn was which team was better, since there were so many regulars out. Just for the Phillies, you had a AAA player (John Mayberry) starting, a rule-5 guy (Michael "not ICS" Martinez) starting, Wilson Valdez playing 3B, and Ben Francisco getting playing time. Additionally, the entire back end of their pen is still out. The Braves obviously were down players as well, so this wasn't quite the "measuring stick" series that I think fans of either team may have been looking for. HedleyLamarr
Phils smashed the Braves 14-1 to take 2 of 3The vaunted lefties out of the Atlanta bullpen (O'Flaherty, Venters, Sherrill) were deemed unavailable today? On the last game prior to the all-star break? Against a lefthanded-hitting-heavy team in the Phillies, the team you're chasing for the division?Okay, Fredi Gonzalez ...He also didn't use Kimbrel in game 1 of the season, which arguably cost the Braves that game. The man seriously will not use any of the big guns unless the Braves have the lead. SMH.The Braves will be ready for the September series, though. The focus is for success in October, not winning one series in early July.

But it was damn hot today (Coming from the perspective of someone who's used to wearing a jacket during some July night games). I couldn't stay in my seat for more than two or three innings in the direct sun. I'm not sure I'd want to catch too many day games this time of year.
