Cuban to pay for parade and may give the Mavs something different than rings..

MIAMI -- Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said championship parades and title rings just aren't his style, but the 2010-11 NBA champions will be riding floats through the streets of Dallas very soon.

And Cuban said he's picking up the tab.

"We'll do it," Cuban said early Monday morning. "All I told them was -- Terdema Ussery, our president -- you plan the parade. I'll pay for it because I don't think it's right for the city to have to pay for it. And let's just have some fun."

Any talk of a parade prior to the Mavs' 105-95 Game 6 victory over the Miami Heat on Sunday night was considered taboo.

Five years ago, after Dallas took a 2-0 lead in the Finals over the Heat and were bound for South Beach, parade plans were revealed and it became the first embarrassing mishap in an epic meltdown that has finally come to an end.

City officials still haven't set a date.

One area where Cuban hinted he might break with tradition is presenting championship rings to his players.

"I might not get rings," the Mavs' billionaire owner told NBATV. "Rings are old school. You've seen it before: There's guys who pick up the sweats and towels and they have these big, blingy rings. I'm like, 'Rings are done. It's time to take it to the next level.'"

What does he have up his sleeve? Cuban refused to reveal what he was thinking.

How do you expect LeBron to respond to a question about his haters? "Continue to hate me, guys... I'm a horrible human being"?

"No comment," maybe?

Should we really be surprised at the lack of class from #6? I can't believe how any company would want him as a spokesperson.

Neither can I. Who in the world would want the most marketable player in basketball, maybe all of sports, as someone to help you sell your products? It just makes no business sense I tell ya! No way can a guy who's exposed to literally billions of people help you successfully move product!

Ahh Cleveland...

"Absolutely not, because at the end of the day, all the people that were rooting on me to fail, at the end of the day, they have to wake up tomorrow and have the same life that they had before they woke up today," James said. "They have the same personal problems they had today. I'm going to continue to live the way I want to live and continue to do the things that I want to do with me and my family and be happy with that.

"They can get a few days or a few months or whatever the case may be on being happy about not only myself, but the Miami Heat not accomplishing their goal. But they have to get back to the real world at some point."

It's safe to say most of America except South Florida was pulling for the Mavs. Then #6 say I'm rich haters and your not. That's not playing well with most of America. It's not just Cleveland that dislikes this guy.

Dan Gilbert Tweet

Congrats to Mark C.&entire Mavs org. Mavs NEVER stopped & now entire franchise gets rings. Old Lesson for all:There are NO SHORTCUTS. NONE.

Well, I suppose Dan didn't take any short-cuts to get to 19 wins this season huh?

As much as I like to dump on LeBron, I get much more pleasure dumping on Gilbert Grape

I saw, I came, I left.

I don't see anything wrong with his statement. He also didn't mention money at all.

Well he might as well have said, "all my haters are gonna wake up tomorrow and still have their miserable lives with their miserable jobs and their sad pathetic houses and I'm still gonna be me." He might as well have said that because that's what I think he meant.

It's just more proof that the guy is a total egotistical ass-bag.

etc.

I'd think that if the players get a hold of this story they'll let him know that they'd like rings. And I hope so. It's a tradition I'd like not to have end (or even take a year off).

Yeah, I can see Cuban giving the players something MASSIVE -- then on the side, a Dallas Mavericks championship ring. ^_^

Really, SportsCenter? They're playing like 40 minutes of LeBron/Cleveland crap each hour, and barely even touching on, you know, that team who won the finals - Dallas (except for playing that Mark Cuban interview over and over).

I mean that's really not fair that the Heat lost the finals - yet get all of ESPN's TV time.

On that note, I'm changing the channel.

ESPN ain't stupid--they know what'll get folks watching, what'll get folks talking. For what it's worth, a lot of that same stupid sh** has been going on in this very thread.

Just saying...

*Disclaimer: I am not an authoritative expert on stuff...I just do a lot of reading and research and keep in close connect with a bunch of people who are authoritative experts on stuff. 😁

You gotta protect your investments, right? ESPN's Motto: Be the news, don't report the news.

And that's what's wrong with broadcast journalism in general...it's all about the ratings, not what's actually happening.

Anyways, congrats to the Dallas Mavericks for winning a Championship. I know that a lot of fellow Utah Jazz fans don't like him, but I like Mark Cuban (reminds me of Larry Miller, in terms of being a fan of his team and being so hands-on), and I'm glad that he got a ring (or whatever else) for his team, unlike Miller. To see this franchise take the upward turn it has because of him is quite the sports business success stories of the last decade or so.

Congrats to Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Terry, Jason Kidd, J. J. Barea, and everyone else on the Mavericks for winning the title. I'm glad to see them get it!

Say what you want about LeBron...all that matters is that he's still ringless* for now.

*Though I think the Heat will win a championship soon.

No matter what the guy would've said you all would've bitched about it. And I agree with him. It's a :censored:ing sport, get a life and put your passions into something that actually matters rather than where some basketball player decided to play. I still can't fathom why people have such an enormous amount of hate for this guy. Sure he had the ESPN special blah blah blah. He's a pro basketball player. They're all spoiled attention seeking cry babies. He's no worse or no better than any of the rest of them. His exposure is higher, but that's pretty much all. And really, most people could care less if he comes off as selfish or if he has some counter to those who hate him in post game interviews that is oddly offensive to some. All most care about is that he can put the ball in the hoop. If you really can't see how one of the most globally exposed athletes in the history of sports would be a good spokes person, then you're just dumb.
