Just for Lights Out, let's assume Georgia wins, and take a look at the potiential conference champions

Pac 12-Oregon: Lost to LSU

Big East-West Virginia: Lost to LSU

-Cincinatti: Has 3 losses

Big Ten-Michigan State: Has 2 losses

-Wisconsin: Has 2 losses

Big XII-Oklahoma State: 1 loss was to a 6-6 team

-Oklahoma: Has 2 losses

SEC-Georgia: Has 2 losses

ACC-Virginia Tech: 1 loss was by 20 at home

-Clemson: Has 3 losses

Other than the fact that you seem to like to :censored: with Lights Out, what's your point?

I'm not much of a Rick Reilly fan but I think this not only makes a decent case against a rematch, it also nicely sums up the SEC "advocacy" we're occasionally subjected to around here...

There shouldn't be one (LSU-Alabama rematch) because it makes the BCS honchos liars. This is their Twitter handle: @EveryGameCounts. But how can every game count if it doesn't matter who won the first one?

If you remember, LSU won the first game -- which resembled hippos taking a mud bath -- 9-6 (in OT, no less), in Tuscaloosa. Didn't hurt the Tide any. They're going to get a mulligan if we don't stop it. You have to figure, too, that, if Alabama had won, then LSU would only have one loss and the Tigers would get the redo. This is because, apparently, no conference can really play football in this country except the SEC, which invented the sport in 2006.

Actually, Rick Reilly is right. Consider that there's FOUR teams that haven't lost to non-SEC teams. All four have legitimate claims to a shot at the national title. I wouldn't think that the champ of a second-tier conference (like an Oregon or a VT or an Oklahoma State) has an argument.

Ok, now that LSU did what they had to, It's really up to OSU to do what they need to do. That said, I'd almost be willing to put money on it that Okie State gets rolled tonight, and rolled HARD. I'm taking Oklahoma by at least three touchdowns.

I don't know about three TD's, but I think Oklahoma will win relatively handily.

Eh, today might finally be the day Big Game Bob :censored: s the bed in Bedlam.

EDIT-Starting to get an idea about what would have happened if there had been more cross-division encounters among the SEC's top teams.

Agreed. I think the Sooners win easily.

In other news...

Another one of the mid-major conferences (after the SEC, aren't they all mid-majors? :P ) is about to begin play in their first ever conference championship game. I think Wisconsin gets a little revenge tonight and punches their ticket to Pasadena.

Is it just me, or is any one else still weirded out with the NFL on FOX theme used for anything else but the NFL? I keep kinda forgetting that I am watching a Badger game lol. Although it is looking like a pro game right now.

I got over that once they started using it for their baseball broadcasts.

Not that I'm arguing for an Alabama-LSU rematch, but....

Why is it perfectly acceptable for rematches to occur in conference title games, but not for the National Championship? How come there's no uproar about there being a Virginia Tech-Clemson rematch for the ACC Championship or a Wisconsin-Michigan State rematch for the Big Ten Championship...but a big uproar for a possible LSU-Alabama rematch? Aren't their first meetings pretty much meaningless now, too?

To me, it makes no sense to argue against seeing rematches when we're already seeing them decide conference championships.

Conference championships are part of a pre-arranged playoff system whose requirements are simple and known before the season, and more importantly, played between two participants that are proven to be the best (eligible-glances at USC and their postseason ban) in their respective divisions by virtue of a round robin. There is much less uncertainty at work in those games' participants than in a MNC.
