"The Dodgers and Red Sox are closing in on a deal to send Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Nick Punto to Los Angeles, though a few hurdles remain before it's official, multiple baseball sources said Friday." - ESPN Boston

LMAO! Just because the Dodgers have new owners doesn't mean they have to spend all that money at once, especially on that group of distractions. Wow. This makes the Angels' inexplicable Vernon Wells deal look like freaking Moneyball by comparison.

Are all Rays fans really that gung ho about beating the Red Sox? Good for you guys. I love Joe Maddon and most of the Rays' roster but you fans are so cute.

Beckett is a 10/5 guy, but he must want to get out of BOS.

I can't see there being any hiccups in him rejecting this deal. I bet he wants to get out of Boston more than we want him out, at least I hope so.

Lol the Dodgers are so dumb. Their management, no matter how much money they have now, are soon gonna realize that you can't assemble a baseball team as if you're playing a video game. You can't add almost $300 million in additional salary in one swap without some serious future problems. Come on now, that's business 101 s**t right there. And while the Dodgers are doing all of this, the Giants are sitting back quietly and reupping their stars for really reasonable money. While the idea of seeing the Dodgers turn into the west coast Yankees with all of the cash they're throwing around is a bit unnerving, the pieces they're adding make very little sense long term. They're trying to pick up three guys who will be making more than $15 million a season, two of which will make more than $20 million a season for close to the next five seasons, and all of them you can argue are already on the decline.

They are using Guggenheim Partners' money to run the team. They have $125B.

Ugh. Gonzalez gets to return to SoCal. Why in less then 2 years with Boston does he leave and go to the flippin Dodgers of all teams? The Giants now absolutely can't struggle against the weaklings like the Astros and Cubs next week. This last month definitely got more intense(Like it wasn't already)

Oh yeah, using other people's money to purchase the Dodgers and stack their roster? That sounds like a plan Frank McCourt would be proud of, and seems even borderline illegal. I'm already getting the feeling that the Dodgers new owners are somehow even worse than their last owners, and that's really saying something.

Apparently its done! Loney, Jerry Sands, Rubby De La Rosa, Ivan DeJesus, and Allen Webster to the Sox. Very nice move by Boston IMO.

Any source? Still no word over on the SoSH forum and they're usually 5 minutes ahead of everybody when it comes to Sox transactions.

It strikes me as the classic "new owners, tons of money, wants to invigorate fan base by spending exorbitant amounts of it" ideology.

On a micro scale, relative to what we're seeing with the Dodgers, I remember something similar to this when Oren Koules and Len Barrie bought the Lightning back in 2008. These days, the Tampa Bay area is extremely lucky to still have a franchise, and especially one that isn't completely at the bottom of the barrel.

This will all be funnier if the Dodgers still miss the playoffs. It's pretty jarring, or at least it has to be, that the Melky-less Giants just swept the Dodgers out of LA this week.

Eh, no official word from anyone but Jon Morosi. And he just sent out a "just encase this falls through" tweet. I'm not sold, yet.

EDIT: If this deal goes through, what's the Red Sox 2013 payroll? $45 million. Woah.

Huh? I can't speak for all Rays fans, but not beating the pathetic Sox would be a disappointment for me, and beating them is expected. I was just laughing at the Dodgers for all the horrible contracts they just took on for no reason. I mean, is Beckett really the difference between the Dodgers winning the division or the Giants winning it?

There is along list of new ownerships doing stuff like this. Most of the time it fails.

But I hope the Dodgers do well. I would like to see Mattingly have some playoff success as a manager and I would like to point and laugh at the Red Sox if those guys all do well with the Dodgers.

So the Sox are blowing the whole thing sky-high.

I must, say, I 70% love this deal.

I love the prospects they're getting back. I love that they're getting rid of Beckett and Crawford (whom I believe will come back better following Tommy John, but whatever) and I love the salary relief this provides them.

However, I hate 30% of this.

Losing A-Gon will hurt. A lot. I love that guy.

And the Sox are also getting James Loney. Gag me.

Only way to describe Red Sox season

I would have just used: Better Than The Mets.
