Back to the Boston/LA trade for a second: This could mean Bobby V knows he'll have more than just next year in Beantown.

While not nearly as good as Gonzalez, and what Crawford and Beckett could potentially be when they're on, when Bobby V took over the Mets mid-way through the '96 season he basically determined that Bernard Gilkey, Butch Huskey, and Lance Johnson (their starting OF) all didn't fit in with what he wanted, so he basically got rid of them within a year and a half, and turned out to be right, their careers were next to nothing once they left Queens (which is usually the opposite of how these things work w/ the Mets). Johnson had 221 hits that season, Gilkey hit .317 with 30 HR and 117 RBI (Probably Roids too? My speculation there) and by 1998 there were a game out of the wild-card and then made the postseason for 2 consecutive years for the only time ever including a World Series.

Point is, there may be more to this than just a trade. This may mean they're committed to Valentine and they'll allow him to shape the club as he sees fit. This would also of course join he and Cherrington at the hip.

Just remember though, after 2002 what happened to the Mets...

The 2002 Mets never fit with Bobby V and were a disaster, which is why the Sox made a huge mistake hiring him in the first place. Bobby V does good with gritty low key players who play above their grade, while superstars get in his way and clash with his style.

Mike Piazza is a notable exception, but the reason Bobby V and Piazza got long so well is both had a connection to Tom Lasorda.

Has Google Maps failed me, or is Augusta National seriously across the street from an IHOP, a CVS, a megachurch, and an Arby's? This might be better than Graceland being next to a KFC and a Chinese buffet.

Ask anyone who's played for Valentine and they'll tell you that. Hell, Valentine's ego is larger than Barry Bonds and Alex Rodriguez's combined!

Let's not blow this with almost a month left, eh Pirates?

2 out of 3 or a full-on sweep of St. Louis would be very good for me right now. I'm actually rooting for the Pirates to win 82 games this year.

That is indeed Augusta National's neighborhood.

You're forgetting Graceland's other neighbors...a McDonald's, a slew of crap souvenir shops, and a good Krispy Kreme. (Good because they carry the cinnamon-apple doughnuts. The KK's in Atlanta don't.....jerks.)
