2012 MLB Season

Dodgers add nearly 300 million in payroll, proceed to slip 4.5 back of the Giants. Still a LOT of baseball left to play, but nothing would tickle me more than to see the Dodgers faceplant the rest of this season.

For the record, on April 1st I did not expect the Orioles to begin a three game series in New York on August 31st with a chance to leave town tied for first place.

I think everyone in baseball is pulling for the Orioles. Why do people still doubt Buck Showalter?

I was rooting for them until they went back to the cartoon bird.

It's funny that the Dodgers were doing better back when they were Kemp, Ethier, and a bunch of no-name rascals. The owners made some hasty moves to prove a point, but I'd expect them to be much better next season.

Because not only has he never won a World Series, but TWICE did the team he got fired from, win the year AFTER he got fired.

For me, I'd rather see the A's over the Orioles, but the Orioles have been a nice surprise.

If anything I think that speaks to what kind of manager he is. In both cases he turned struggling teams into winners and in both cases was fired in what I'd call unfair situations. Also in both cases pieces were added to the teams the next year that Showalter didn't have to work with. Bob Brenly won a World Series with the D-backs and I'd take Buck Showalter as my manager every day of the week over Bob Brenly.

Just look at what he did with the Orioles last year. They were on their way to being one of baseball's worst teams ever and they went 34-23 under him. The guy is a good manager. It's not a fluke.

Surprise, surprise.

But really, the Boston sports media is abhorrent. I don't really blame him for being pissed. I'm surprised he held his tongue this long.

Sans Yankee, Ray, Tiger, Angel, and Athletic fans.

That's a thread for last year's predictions.

Here is the 2012 thread.

Tigers vs. Phillies in the World Series.

One of those teams is extremely iffy right now, the other is completely dead.

I was really on top of my game that day when I made those picks.

Erm, not this guy. Peter Angelos deserves to rot in hell, not to go to the playoffs.

With the way the Yankees are playing, you'll probably get to see both those teams in the playoffs.

I would like to take solace in the fact I believe I was the only person here who had the Angels missing the playoffs altogether(a lot of that Pujols kool-aid was drank), but I had the White Sox as the worst team in the AL(almost 30 games worse than the Royals, who I thought would surprise), so I can't gloat too hard about anything.

Damn the A's are taking a crap on the Red Sox now, 20-2! Hopefully Arizona can beat LA tonight, after a sleepy start for the Giants at Wrigley today.

Dodgers lose in 11!

I thought the Nats beating the Cards 10-0 was big. Damn!

This. You couldn't watch the Nationals games in the Washington metro area when they first moved from Montréal because Angelos made it so that the local TV network, MASN, couldn't show the games.
