So much red, blue, and black in this league.

True, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Most teams look great (with the exception of the Panthers, Avalanche, Blues and Senators). When the Coyotes move to Quebec City, maybe they'll pick a new and unique color (I doubt it. I think they'll go for a modern take on the old uniforms).

And only three teams wear black. Bruins, Penguins and Stars. The Stars are apparently getting an overhaul for the 2013-2014 season (thought I read that on a thread a few weeks ago), so they'll hopefully go back to the green.

On a different note, it'll be weird watching non-Olympic sports on CNBC. Hell, it'll be weird watching anything on CNBC.

Yeah the Avs/Stars should be out, the Kings/Sharks should be in, and they're using Florida's old jersey. But besides that, cool display.

I know, I remember they showed it on the NHL live show the NHL network. Agreed, it's pretty cool to do.

You're not counting the teams that aren't in that picture.

True.

But over half the teams are.

Pretty steep. Truth hurts.

Blues not really off to a great start tonight in the only game on the schedule. I'm actually rooting for the jerkwads tonight, as I want no part of a Coyotrap-Blackhawks first round, especially since Toews seems to be done for the season. While there's a school of thought that a redlining team like Phoenix can't win a best-of-seven once the other team is as trying as hard as they are, still, I'd like to enjoy hockey, you know?

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Speaking of the NHL and New York....

tumblr_m22xtddDbL1qfm37po1_500.jpg

This is an artist?s rendering of the 21-foot-high, 6,600-pound Stanley Cup replica that NBC is putting in Manhattan?s Times Square for three days, beginning on Wednesday, April 11 and the start of the NHL playoffs.

It?s not just a giant fountain; it?s a giant water fountain.

As in, you can drink from the 21-foot high Stanley Cup.

Because of the sweater color discussion, I used an online graph-builder (on some science website's "KidZone") and created this graph of NHL home sweater colors.

graph.jpg

Red constitutes nearly half of the teams in the league, with blue only two behind. 22 teams have either red or blue as their home sweater color. Only the Flyers and Predators don't have red, blue or black in the color scheme.

I guess it is safe to say that red, blue and black are far too prevalent in this league.

But you guys already knew that.

But how can we fix that?

Moving the Wild and Stars back to green homes would be a nice start, upping the number of "Other" teams to four. I guess the Hurricanes could survive getting another sweater color, but what would it be? Grey? Black? The Kings could return to purple and yellow, but some might decry that as too Lakersesque. The Senators are in a bit of a bind; what colors are "senators"?

Any other ideas?

Are you including the Sharks in the blue category or the other category?

And wait, the Flyers do have black in their color scheme.

Crap. I accidentally added them to black. Mentally add them to the "other" category.

Yes, the Flyers do have black in their color schemes, but their home sweaters are orange-heavy.

Not sure how I feel about backing into the postseason.

Oh well, Blues-Coyotes first round matchup: Loser moves to Quebec.

3. Coyotes - 35 ROW - 95 PTS

---

7. Kings - 34 ROW - 94 PTS

8. Sharks - 33 ROW - 94 PTS

Phoenix plays in Minnesota two and a half hours before LA plays in San Jose, so LA/SJ will know the result and what they need sometime during the first period.

If Phoenis wins, San Jose and LA are eliminated.

If Phoenix loses in OT/SO, San Jose is eliminated and LA wins the division with a REG/OT win (Kings earned 8 PTS (3-1-2) vs Phoenix, Coyotes earned 7 PTS (3-2-1) vs LA.)

If Phoenix loses in regulation, winner of SJ/LA wins the division.

Phoenix also can't finish any lower than 7th.
