Flyers make it 2-1, Panthers about to clinch the playoffs on a loss. Too little too late for the Sabres. You wanna make it to the Stanley Cup, don't be in 15th place in January.

Damn Flyers put the Panthers into the playoff field.

Oh well. Not that I can really riff about the losing record factor at this point - Buffalo is 39-42, so they can't surpass .500.

UPDATE - But no division title tonight. Capitals got this game under wraps now. Which also means Buffalo is out of playoff contention. For those not keeping track, Florida is now 1-3-5 over their last nine, and 37-44 overall. Worst record to get into the playoffs in quite some time, probably ever under the current system.

Exhale! Caps punch their ticket and can still win the division. I will be a Caniac on Saturday!

So, the Panthers lose in regulation, but still clinch a playoff spot. Story of their season.

Orpik got 5 and a gamer on that, but I doubt it'll warrant a suspension. However Torts had this to say:

“It’s a cheap dirty hit. I wonder what would happen if we did it to their two whining stars over there? I wonder what would happen? I am anxious to see what happens with the league with this. There is just no respect amongst the players.

It’s one of the most arrogant organizations in the league. They whine about this kind of stuff all the time and then look what happens. It’s ridiculous…they will whine about something else over….. there about their two ******* stars”

It's like the Seinfeld episode where Jerry can't help but break even.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

The 2002-03 Islanders made the playoffs with 35 wins...in a system that included OTLs.

There were also ties, so of the 11 ties the Isles had, probably give them another 5 or 6 wins. The Panthers at 31 regulation/overtime wins seems to be a low not plumbed since the days of the 16-team playoff for a 21-team league, to say nothing of their horrible differential: -22, -27 if you're taking shootouts into account (which you probably shouldn't).

Except the Panthers have 37 wins. ^_^ Maybe the Islanders end up with 40 wins if there's a shootout...maybe not. Either way, all we know is they ended the year with 35 wins.

Good for Torts. Flipping out is his thing.

Flames win, and play spoiler in the Nucks Presidents chase. You're welcome New York and St Louis.

Also Calgary becomes the first team in a 103 games that the Nucks have played, where they pissed away a 3rd period lead and lost in regulation. Probably the best third period the Flames have played all year.

Sadly, it didn't matter. Also wow all spots are locked up now, crazy.
