The Big East Conference of Anaheim.

FWIW, I loled at this.

Wow, that's so orginal. At least the Metro conference makes more sense.

Why would you name a football league after a basketball conference?

Especially when the conference is already bearing a basketball league's name.

That they're still mourning the losses of the Tigers, Aggies, Buffs and Huskers?

Texas is mourning the loss of spanking Little Red every two years. They had a lot of fun with it, though I imagine that's why you opted to play Minnesota and Indiana.

Which would you take? A percent chance at ranking in $10m per year dependent on television appearances and bowl performance of the league, or a guaranteed $17m regardless of circumstances.

Any Texas fan who resorts to football records only shows their own ignorance. Collegiate conferences are comprised of a lot more than just football, and a large chunk of it comes down to money and how well you can fund your non-income earning sports like bowling and women's tennis.

Also, you can't blame Nebraska for taking the gravy train when Texas, A&M and the 2 Okies were flirting with the Pac-16 concept. Factor in that Colorado also left and both Mizzou and A&M defected to the SEC. The Big 12 is not exactly the bastion of conference stability and while the additions of TCU and West Virginia were profitable, they were also extremely lucky.

Enjoy the Red River Rivalry; it's virtually all Texas has to cling onto these days.

For one, the conference formerly known as the Big East is much more competitive in basketball than football.

So, now that the Big East is being put out of its misery by its seven basketball-only members, the issue of which faction - the surviving football schools or the departing basketball ones - will keep the name is still up in the air:

But by leaving, the basketball schools would forfeit receiving their part of the growing total of exit fees that have been paid or will be paid by Big East schools such as West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Rutgers and Notre Dame, all who have left or are in the process of leaving the conference. They would also forfeit the valuable Big East "name'' and other residuals, including an automatic berth in the NCAA basketball tournament.

To avoid this dilemma, the Catholic schools could push through a vote distributing the exit fee assets immediately and also negotiate a deal where they would take the "Big East'' name with them.

I'd be surprised if the basketball schools don't try to keep the Big East name - it's still a strong basketball brand with a lot of history, and the league would still include many of the schools that built that legacy and take pride in it. That being said, they could have some fun building a league brand on their shared Catholic identity. Some ideas I've seen for the potential renamed Catholic League on Twitter include The Big Priest and The Marchdiosese.
