What makes the white pants so bad for me is the fact that they jammed/forced the grey in there for no apparent reason. I've always found a grey face mask to be neutral, not a license to force grey into another part of the uniform. Its truly terrible.

The Giants have THREE sets of pants. Two Gray, one White. The Style Guide still shows all three as official.

The Gray is forced into there due to the fact that the Giants have a history of Gray pants ('50s-'60s).

I love the grey because it allows the Giants to be something other then just another red, white, and blue team. The grey is their own little twist on the scheme in a way. Also if the Giants went with white pants without grey then the anti-grey facemask people would be up in arms, demanding they drop the grey mask. By adding grey stripes to the white pants the Giants can (or should) be able to continue wearing the grey masks without the boards having to hear about how "boring" those masks look every time they break out said white pants.

The Giants announced last year that they were dropping the old home pants and wearing the road pants full-time.

Guess they didn't take the old homes out of the style guide. But they didn't wear them.

Donovan, were there two pairs in the guide last year?

Yep.

That's actually extraordinarily good news.

Those home pants are the only good ones they have - 5 stripes is just too much.

Yeah, but as we all know - just because they're in the Guide, doesn't mean they'll actually ever be worn.

...oh - and to add: the NFL puts out both a logosheet that contains uniform designs, and a separate On-Field guide that has a lot more detail (measurements, placements, etc.). The Bears' Orange pants were in the logosheet, but were NOT in the On-Field guide. In addition, the Panthers' Black pants weren't in the logosheet, but WERE in the On-Field guide.

So, there's a lot of inconsistency.

...and one more - those Dark Navy pants that the Seahawks wore a couple of seasons ago (for the Green alts, and continued to wear with the Seahawks Blue jerseys some) have NEVER been included in any of the logosheets nor the On-Field guide files.

Those jags uniforms don't look half bad on that video but those helmets completely destroy the set. All they need is a matte black or their original lid and they would be a really good set. I think if Jacksonville actually had a huge fan base they could pressure them into changing but seeing as they have a quarter of their stadium tarped I think we all will have to suffer for at least 5-6 years until they go black and gold chrome

Jacksonville was 20th in attendance last year. So 12 teams had less fans per game then they did. Thats a 2-14 team too. The reason they have tarps is because the stadium was built to host the FL/GA game every year and there is not enough population to fill all the seats. The stadium capacity would be in the top 3rd of the league in the 2nd smallest market. The Jaguars haven't had a blackout since 2009 but nice try. Tarps will have zero to do with the helmets.

Sellout on paper is one thing filling those seats that someone bought to avoid blackouts is another as well as the jags constantly being talked about in relocation shows that the fan base is not as strong as you believe. Either way my opinion is like others an all black lid would make these unis good not great and I also believe that going back to the original or the ones right after that would be 100 times better than the last two! http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/1267815-jaguars-moving-to-los-angeles-could-mean-divisional-realignment

I feel the same they should wear the pants from the Phill Sims era. Those would look great on the blue jerseys.

But they aren't neutral. They stick out like a sore thumb if there's no grey anywhere else in the uniform. The grey facemasks work for the Giants because of the pants, and including the grey in the stripes on the white pants maintains that continuity. Now I just wish they'd fix the jerseys to match that striping pattern. Maybe something like this:

I agree. I prefer the Giants and Bills with white facemasks.

Grey really isn't a color. I really don't want to get into that argument, but it really isn't. So when they try to add grey into their color scheme then I find it to be forced because they are trying to use it as an accent color. I say that grey face masks are neutral primarily because of the history of football face masks. It could be debatable, but I would bet that they went with grey face masks because of the historical significance of using grey to give a certain kind of "timeless" and "classic" feel to their helmet...that being said, it doesn't mean that they can or should use grey in the rest of the uniform.

dead horse: i fail to see how grey facemasks are any different than black shoes, and are only slightly different than the hockey sticks not matching the team colors of their user.

I think it looks hideous. When your regular pants look good, you don't need alternates.

No one "needs" alternates. If a team needs an alternate because their primary isn't good then the issue really isn't the alternate, right? B)

Exactly. It's a bit confusing why they didn't go with the white pants they wore back in the day since they wear basically the same set now. These look much better.

Which reminds me, is the Saints' gold jersey still in the guide? I assume not since they have the throwbacks. (Sorry, don't have access to the info you shared a while back or I'd look.)
