I hate to follow that post as it is greater than just football, but did the Cowboys really pick up Brandon Weeden? Seriously? Can my team be any worse at making roster decisions?

Well, they signed Henry Melton from Chicago. A 1-year contract with an option for 3 extra years.

I would have to think this would effectively eliminate kickoffs from the game, as the bulk of them seem to be fielded within five yards of the back of the endzone. If they're going to do this, why even bother having kickoffs? Why not just have teams start at the 20?

And Devin Hester wants $4m a season. Good luck.

Isn't it kind of strange to vote on a rule like this after free agency has already started? I don't know if any good returners have been signed, but it would seem to reduce their market value significantly, and those teams could have done something else with that money. I know there's nobody being signed for millions to be strictly a kickoff returner, but I'm sure there's some second-team CBs who have added value because they are good as returners, or #4 WRs, etc.

To tell you the truth, nothing surprises me anymore. Heck, that could go on and draft the best receiver in the draft, and it be right in line with the unpredictability the team has. And, quite personally, other than their close proximity, what draws me to the team.

As I mentioned, Devin Hester said he wants $4m a year which he never had a prayer of getting to begin with. The only strictly special teams guy I know that has signed is Trindon Holliday for something in the $700k range, which isn't bad I guess. Hester is, despite his claims of being the best all-around player in football because of his versatility, which is lunacy. He'll be lucky to get more than Holliday got.

Since everybody's talking about the Panthers, I read earlier that Brandon LaFell left because he's apparently too good to catch passes from Cam Newton, saying he wants to play with a Hall of Famer and Cam isn't quite there yet. Pretty silly considering LaFell kind of isn't very good.

I say the Panthers go for Kenny Britt maybe offer up to 3 or 4 year deal

Kenny Britt is neither productive enough, healthy enough, and carries too many off-field issues to be given any contract longer than two years. And you do the two years for cap reasons since he really only warrants a one year deal.

Bucs got Mike Jenkins. Wow. This is just awesome to see from a home-town Bucs fan. There's great excitment for the season. Hopefully it'll stay around with some wins. The team has vastly improved. If we can get one final wide reciever from either the draft or free agency, I am predicting a potential Wild Card presence for them. They'll be 2nd for sure, if they draft Watkins or Evans, avoid injuries, and good coaching.

So Jared Allen to Seattle is not a done deal as first thought.

Except the QB situation is not all good, and that's a big issue.

Not every team is like the 2000 Baltimore Ravens, having a really terrible QB (sorry Trent Dilfer) and a great Defense and expect their Defense to do everything for them. Tampa needs a Franchise QB, and Mike Glennon is not that.

That's a rough assessment for a rookie QB who stepped into a starting job in an awful situation and played pretty damn well. He wasn't perfect but all things considered, he played about as well as you can reasonably expect from a rookie in that dumpster fire of a situation. Certainly soon to cast him off as someone who can't lead a successful NFL team, no? He was better than Foles was as a rookie.

In no way was he better than Foles as a rookie. Foles wasn't Peyton Manning (though his stats suggest otherwise) but he was damn good. I wouldn't write out Glennon either, but Foles was better. Even if he's not the guy for Kelly.

I didn't say he was better than Foles was last year. I said I thought he was better than Foles when Foles was a rookie... which was not last year. Now granted, I didn't see that much of Foles as a rookie, but I did see his first game against Washington, which was pretty bad. Besides, my point was that I'm sure Foles didn't look like all that attractive of an option after his first season and dumping a QB after their first season can be pretty foolish. And again, you have to account for the situation Glennon was in.

Mike Glennon...no. There is nothing impressive about that guy at all. I've watched the games, I've watched the film, and there is no way that is a guy I'd be willing to go to war with for the next several years. Save this post if I end up looking like a moron; I'm not the least bit sold on him.

Glennon isn't going to start anyway. McCown has already been penciled in as the starter. It's not a great situation, but if he can play as well as he did last year they could be ok. I still don't expect them to make the playoffs, but next season has gotta be better than the dumpster fire last was season.

I mean, I'll concede a tiny thing here when I say that the overwhelming stench of Schiano plastered all over Glennon does affect my opinion on him just a little bit. Schiano undermined his starting QB for an entire off-season through passive/aggressive BS and then used Freeman's ensuing ineffectiveness as a chance to put his boy under center. It's not Glennon's fault by any means, but I can't just separate the events that happened there. It doesn't help Glennon that what I saw when reviewing him were enough poor decisions to make a coach pull his hair out (fortunately, a problem Lovie Smith wouldn't have). Can he learn? Well, sure, it's always possible, but someone will have to try and tell me what exactly Mike Glennon's strengths are supposed to be. He's not particularly accurate, he's prone to overthrows, his touch is not particularly consistent; Tampa Bay has a very nice stable of RB's provided they can stay healthy (Martin, James, Rainey) and with some of the re-tooling along the O-line, things are looking up in that department. My wet dream for the draft is absolutely a scenario where Sammy Watkins falls to #7, but whether that happens or not is probably going to be determined by how the QB-needy teams assess the 'specs. I'm fairly underwhelmed but desperate times will yield desperate draft pickings.
