My favorite one of those is that you could get the same odds of 5000-1 on Christmas Day being the warmest day of the year in Britain

You could also get the same 5,000-to-1 odds that Elvis Presley would be found alive (I think within the year).

It will be interesting following them the next few years. Most surprising champions disappear after some years in the midfield of the table or even in the 2. division (like Kaiserslautern 1998, Montpellier 2012, La Coruna 2000...).

I'm a simple person, I have a pixelated David Beckham as profile photo since 2010.

I was trying to explain this to one of my friends yesterday who's never really watched soccer (but is a big sports fan), and when I tried to contextualize it in a way that compared to American sports, I simply couldn't do it. This is such a shocking thing to happen, that it's actually kind of impossible to explain to outsiders in a meaningful way.

I honestly dont don't think anyone is EVER going to top this LCFC club on the list of most improbable winners.

Best explanation I've heard:

Appalachian State (2007) beats Michigan, Alabama and Ohio State before winning the FBS National Championship.

Congrats to them for winning the PL... but, repeating will be much, much harder.

First off, no one is going to be surprised by them. This is a good club with two prolific goal scorers on the squad... they came out of nowhere this season, but next season might prove differently.

Secondly, I think they took advantage of not being burnt out. Unlike some of the other teams chasing them, all Leicester had to worry about was games in their league and the occasional national tournament. Those other squads had to throw in international competition like the Champions League as well. Leicester will get a taste of that as they earned a spot in the group stage of next season's Champions League.

Atletico are back in the final after advancing on away goals!

Definitely supporting them in the final this year, as they seem the farthest away from a traditional, Qatari-money-infused powerhouse from the teams remaining.

With the end of the European season fast approaching, and the transfer rumor mill in full swing, I'd like to submit my full predictions for Ins and Outs at Liverpool this summer:

OUTS:

-Jose Enrique

-Martin Skrtel

-Steven Caulker (obviously)

-Lucas Leiva

-Jerome Sinclair

-Christian Benteke

-Mario Balotelli (out on a permanent deal)

-Lazar Markovic (see Balotelli)

INS:

-Timo Horn

-Jonas Hector

-Shkodran Mustafi

-Andriy Yarmolenko

-Mario Gotze

They will also be lucky to keep Mahrez and Kante, especially the latter with his ~19 million pound release fee. N'Golo was so instrumental to their success, unheralded compared to Jamie and Riyad. Without either of those players, there is no way they could have won the PL this year let alone repeat.

And yes, this is very hard to explain to North American sports fans. The situation in which this could happen simply does not exist in NA.

It's reported that winning the Premier League will earn Leicester around £150m. They won't be in a position where they need to sell any players and can easily afford to offer new contracts to all of their players and with that alter any minimum release clauses.

Also there's the attraction of playing Champions League football that not all of the traditionally big clubs can offer right now. A lot of players (Mahrez and Kante included) have come from virtually nowhere in football terms, so to turn their back on the club so suddenly isn't something I imagine will happen.

That new £150m might help them resist transfer fees but I'm not sure if that will allow Leicester to compete with the wage structure at top clubs.

If I was Kante's agent, I would insist he refuse to sign a new contract if he wants a real significant pay increase. We don't know who will come calling...

I'm sure it would be hard for someone like Mahrez to turn down Barcelona, who he has been linked with.

This summer window sure will be interesting for Leicester.

We're going to Basel! A 3-0 win on the night and 3-1 on aggregate take Liverpool to their second final of the season.

Hopefully the result will be better than the first.

Great game if you're a Liverpool supporter. I thought the second yellow issued to Ruiz wasn't needed, and might have swung the game a little. Nevertheless, Villarreal definitely got outplayed.

Watching Hertha completely bottle a Champions League spot has been a hell of a lot more painful than Villa’s relegation was. Turns out all Hertha needed was eight points from the final seven matches… they’ve won one from those first six. Losses to 13th- and 14th-placed Darmstadt and Hoffenheim and a draw with bottom side Hannover.

Brutal stuff. We’ll still have the Europa League for the first time in a while, but that’s a pretty empty consolation prize at this point.
