Report: NHL Expanding league, Adding 4 Teams by 2017

Actually I was completely against the notion of Toronto having another team, but I've realized it would be better for the sport. You want the premier team to be successful. The NHL is better when the Maple Leaves are good, which is why hockey has stunk so much the past 50 years. The Canadian media just can't get it up for any other team, but they do seem to enjoy the novelty of all the California teams being good. I've drafted up a plan that would satisfy this. Make the entire league California and Toronto. There are plenty of California cities just begging for hockey, and in horrible places like Bakersfield, you could even see a team revitalize the city, reduce the crime rate, and have a positive economic effect. Like what the Red Wings did for Detroit, except without the failure part. And we know that Toronto can definitely support 2 teams, so why not 15?

You forgot to add Brawley, Hemet, two teams in Coalinga, Placerville, Shasta, Dunsmuir, Ojai, Nevada City, Grass Valley, Healdsburg, and even Dayton Nevada. It's be worth the unbalanced conferences for how much it can grow those little meth havens towns.

You gave NHL franchises to Victorville and Fresno before Riverside? The hell? You owe that city big for providing you and everyone the resource of fresh, Inland Empire oranges!

Grass Valley was where Ricky Williams spent all of 2004 getting high.

I think it was actually Nevada City. Same :censored: though.

Make sure you put a team in Palm Springs; then, all the ex-Coyotes fans will drive in from Arizona.

Actually, I've heard that they're going to split games played for them between Roseville, Minnesota and Roseville, California.

One period in Minny, the other two just north of Sacramento, and vice versa.

There should be immediate expansion to Sonora, Angels Camp, Lake Shasta and Oakdale.

Either I posted in the wrong thread, or no one on in this thread has any comprehension of what satire is.

Getting back on topic:

How could or would anyone want an NHL franchise in Milwaukee? No one has shown any interest in this or even been in the top ten cities rumored? If any team is moving to the mid-west, I'd rather have Kansas City and bring back the Scouts.

As for Toronto, I strongly disagree with the idea of adding a second team. Not only can Toronto not field a successful team for the last 50 years, why award them with a second franchise? You would cut into Buffalo and Ottawa's ticket sales and ratings, those teams would never allow this to happen.

I would love to see Seattle get an expansion team, however unless the NBA is some how involved on this deal to also move/expand a team to Seattle within 1-3 years of the NHL team being awarded, I can't imagine this would be 100%. With that being said, it's either Seattle or Portland, not both. So to whoever wishes that both cities will get a team, keep wishing. I would like to see a west coast team (Outside of California) get a team, the rivalry between Seattle/Vancouver would be epic.

And finally, those of you who are downing the idea of a franchise in Las Vegas...

While the city is clearly a tourist attraction, the idea of not drawing attendance is ridiculous! I believe this franchise would not only succeed but thrive because of it's location. Having a team in Vegas immediately throws them in the middle of building rivalries between San Jose, Anaheim, Los Angeles, Arizona and Colorado - all within driving distance for those rival fans.

With this being Las Vegas' first professional team, the city would immediately embrace this opportunity to show they can support major league teams for future relocation or expansion of other leagues. Even if attendance drops, TV ratings will be through the roof at local casinos, sports books and bars/restaurants. Many who question adequate attendance numbers fail to realize that this team could/would be supported by almost every casino ownership on the strip. Many casino's would purchase large amounts of tickets to offer owner's club and elite members to offer as part of a comp or package deal for staying with their casino, box seats as part of a vip experience.

This could potentially be the first franchise in any professional sports league to have a fan base from all over the country with fans attending games as part of gifts from casinos. Every week this team could see a new wave of fans coming to games and the possibility of selling merchandise is through the roof (How many of us have gone to Vegas and not left without buying a shot glass or t-shirt?) - If you give me an option to buy a Las Vegas hockey jersey or any other item, I'm going to drop atleast $100 bucks knowing that I ( A ) have memorabilia of the first franchise in Las Vegas history of the big four ( B ) I don't plan and can't afford to go back any time soon for another game. It would be almost a side show attraction for the league in same cases.

For those of you who may compare this to the Coyotes, just stop there. The issue with Arizona (Then Phoenix) is that the team's arena was built in the middle of nowhere. Las Vegas could have an arena built close to the strip. If the teams losing 10-1, people may leave because they can go outside to a casino or strip club down the street. If the arena could have slots and table games, now you're adding even more revenue to the arena and team.

With all that being said, I don't believe 4 teams is the answer, I would prefer 2 teams. Las Vegas and Seattle.

Seattle Metropolitan's for sure 100%

Colors: Green, Yellow/Gold, White

Las Vegas has so many possible names. Aces, Clubs, Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, Royals(Flush), (Black)Jacks, Gamblers, (Buffalo)Hunters, Cheetahs, Sin City Vultures, Dragons, Wynners, 21's, (Single-Leaf)Piñons, (Lahontan Cutthroat)Trouts, Snake Eye's

Colors: Silver, Blue, White

Denver is not a reasonable driving distance from Las Vegas even by western standards, bar crowds don't help Nielsen ratings, and you can't rely on out-of-towners and gambling addicts.

That was a lot of work to make a post that wasn't any good.

EDIT: Oh also,

As for Toronto, I strongly disagree with the idea of adding a second team. Not only can Toronto not field a successful team for the last 50 years, why award them with a second franchise?

This isn't true, and I see you couldn't even deign to mention the Canadian city that's building an NHL-ready arena right now. It's obvious what you're really about. Take your Canada concern trolling to HFboards where you belong.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
