2016 MLB All-Star Game... San Diego

Well, SD is a good town & that new park deserves to host after so many years.

Padres should do a rebrand for 2016.

Agreed and if it wasn't for the Giants getting the 2007 ASG the Padres would've hosted the 2006 games

This doesn't make much sense. The decision to host the 2006 game in Pittsburgh was well decided before the 2007 game decision.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I'm in the minority but I like the current scheme the Padres have and I don't see why they would bring back Brown or Yellow.

As for the game. I definitely think they should stick with the rotation although I do see the need to give Petco one game before Camden gets two. I personally thought they should have went with Toronto or had New Yankee Stadium bid since 08 was in the old one. I can't think of too many AL ballparks that haven't hosted the game so this could get out of hand for a while.

Put it in Oakland! Then using brown as a color for the BP jerseys would really make sense.

I have a feeling Brandiose is doing the branding for this. Just a guess.

Considering Fanbrandz has done the mark every year for the last 10 or 15 years, I can't imagine why Brandiose would suddenly get this work. Besides, they don't seem to do much event branding or MLB branding so I'd say you're way off.

Brandiose has strong San Diego connections. Considering how much they seem to "visit" the Padres depsite not rolling out a redesign I'd say this is the next logical option.

Fenway shouldn't get it because they had it fairly recent in 1997 (or 1999?). There are other teams that haven't hosted an ASG since before that like the Cubs or the Dodgers.

Yeah Fenway hosted it in 1999, while Wrigley and Dodger Stadium last hosted in 1990 and 1980 respectively. I'd love to see it return to LA but supposedly there are problems involved with that.

A little research told me that the only two franchises to not host the All Star Game are the Marlins and Rays. Washington hosted it as the Expos back in 1982 but haven't hosted since they moved, and Philly last had it in 1996 when the Phillies played in Veterans Stadium. That leaves Nationals Park, the new Yankee Stadium, Marlins Park, Citizens Bank Park, and Tropicana Stadium as the current venues that have yet to host the ASG. I see a longer delay on Yankee Stadium since they hosted it recently (2008), but I can see the other four get a much higher priority, especially Tampa and Miami (odds are they won't host it back to back since I doubt they'd like to have the ASG in Florida two years running).

Why on earth would Tampa be high priority? Unless you're referring to a supposed future new stadium.

I could see Miami sometime in the nearish future.

Maybe a return to Seattle?

The visitors' locker room is smaller than Wrigley Field's. There's not enough lockers in September for the call-ups, nor will there be for the ever-expanding all star game rosters.

the worst helmets design to me is the Jacksonville jaguars hamlets from 1995 to 2012 because you can't see the logo vary wall

Brandiose did the Reds' brand tweak a few years ago, yet they have nothing to do with the ASG 2015 marks for Cincy. Like meetthemets said, the only event branding they've done so far is All-Star marks for their MiLB clients. I don't see them making the jump to MLB ASG territory anytime soon.

There's a very obvious separation between MLB and Minor League partners. Take jersey providers for example. MLB teams wear Majestic, yet MiLB teams are limited to a different set of 5-ish vendors (Wilson, Rawlings, etc. for regular game jerseys, OT Sports and others for specialties). The only time MiLB teams can wear Majestic is if they petition to wear their parent club's jerseys for a game or two. I seriously doubt MLB would abandon/suspend their long-standing partnership with Fanbrandz just because the ASG is in another baseball design firm's backyard. That would take a massive falling out between MLB and FB, not a temporary change of venue.

(Now watch them unveil 2016 ASG BP hats featuring every team's mascot swinging a bat Friar-style...)

I also like the Padres current scheme... or barring that go back to the '98 scheme. The Brown and Yellow had a time, and that was during the style challenged 70's. No need to be unique for uniqueness sake.

As for the game, Petco is long overdue and the NL still has a bigger backlog of new stadiums that haven't hosted the ASG than the AL in large part due to the AL building their stadiums earlier than the NL on average, having had less teams until the Astros switch, and still having 2 stadiums that will never get the game in Oakland and Tampa unlike the NL (And Toronto won't get it until at least 2018 when they remove the Astroturf and finish their other renovations). So while it's not exactly fair that the rotation isn't being followed, it makes sense. The NL will still have a bigger backlog after San Diego too. Rumor is Washington might even get 2017.

Kinda related to this thread so I'll post it here...

Apparently, the Miami Marlins will play host to the 2017 All-Star Game.

Three consecutive NL ballparks hosting the All-Star Game, eh...?

Not surprised with the glut of new NL ballparks that have yet to host. I mean Philly hasnt hosted yet and CBP has been open since 2004 or 2005 I think.

Yeah I'd imagine CBP getting it soon, but I also see Wrigley Field or Dodger Stadium getting it also. They'll probably throw in an American League park to balance it out, maybe Tampa or Oakland if they have a stadium ready by 2019 or something.

I like that Miami's hosting it. This means we're likely going to get a crazy ASG logo to go with the Marlins' out-there identity. Although this is one of the shorter gaps between announcements of ASG hosts, at least in my memory. How long has it been, a month? Less than that possibly. Guess they're going for it like the World Cup did for 2018/2022.

They're actually moving to a bid-process for the game. No more alternating years between AL and NL teams.
