Unocal
I don't care how low the magic number is. I will NEVER EVER EVER count out the Giants until the elimination number. If it's not 0, as far as I am concerned, they still have a shot. I truly believe the Giants are capable of winning out and Dodgers of losing out. The Giants are the hardest team in sports to eliminate. For now, Jarrett Parker singlehandedly kept the championship reign alive for one more tomorrow. And the Dodgers better take care of business because Parker can singlehandedly make things intereting in the NL West. It sounds irrational, but... Bochy and the Giants have proven to be the Rasputins of baseball.
FiddySicks
Yeah, probably a little irrational. I sure hope you're right though! It's a bummer that both my Giants and the A's didn't make the playoffs this year, but getting to see Zito face Hudson and his former team for what's likely both of their last big league starts is a pretty nice way to wrap up a non playoff season. Two of the most notable Bay Area starters simultaneously hitting that ol dusty trail where it all began is actually a bit touching, even. Too bad Mark Mulder wasn't there, too! He'd make a great addition to next year's club, especially if Panik and Pence get back to 100% (which I hope they will). I'd say that the Giants' biggest concern is getting more starting pitchers who can actually pitch well. The rotation was always an issue this season, and I hope it improves with the right additions. FiddySicks
I'm pretty sure the Giants will be throwing the kitchen sink at at least one top name starter this off season. Unocal
We're gonna all look mighty silly in a month when the Giants repeat. You heard it here first. The Giants are winning out. The Dodgers are losing out. Even with SF's 3 game losing streak. Dodgers are mentally weak and the Giants have the heart of a champion. I don't care about the injuries. I WILL NOT BET AGAINST THE GIANTS UNTIL THEY ARE OUT. As far as I'm concerned, until the Giants are eliminated, I am not picking anyone else to win the WS. As long as they are mathematically alive, I have them winning it all. Period. When they're out, THEN I will pick someone else to win. Damn Rockies. Damn Cargo and Arenado piling up the most meaningless gaudy stats. Hitting meaningless HR unless it's fantasy baseball.
sportstar1212
They're 7.5 games back with 8 games left. Yes, it's still mathematically possible, but they're hanging on by a thread. Hell, the Red Sox are closer to a Wild Card spot than the Giants are to the division title, I'm still not getting my hopes up for that to happen. I know, I know, it sounds crazy, but.... there's just something these Giants. I don't believe in that even year odd year stuff- I just believe they are never ever ever out of it. I'm not even a Dodger fan- I just don't want them vs. STL again.

Unocal
I can't discount Price staying with Toronto. He REALLY seems to like it there. And he'd be honestly going to a not-quite-as-offensively-awesome team.

I have a feeling Price will be a Giant on Opening Day next year.I'm really liking the Cubs chances of landing Price.Could be, what with Maddon there and everything. However, having just given an enormous contract to Lester, I don't think the Cubs will be willing to offer as much as the Giants in terms of $ and time. SF's payroll for this year is at $173,000,000, while they currently have $116,000,000 committed for next year according to Baseball Prospectus. That's $57,000,000 to play around with. In addition, look at last winter. The Giants were reportedly the highest bidders on Lester and Shields, although neither of them ultimately signed. The FO is willing to make that huge commitment. Look at this year's trade deadline, too. Their first choice was not Mike Leake. The Giants tried for Price, Hamels, and Kazmir before turning to plan B. The writing's on the wall, IMO - they want that second ace to line up behind Bumgarner and they're willing to spend the money to make it happen.Edit: Should mention that the Giants' only major hole is pitching. When they were healthy, they were the premier offensive team in the NL this year. If you don't believe me, look at their team stats through the midpoint of the season (before the big injuries came). At or near the top of most major categories. When you take into account their home ballpark, I don't think there's too much of a question. Almost all of that $50M+ will go towards improving the rotation.
