rvrdgsfn
http://www.thehockey...his-summer.htmlBettman acknowledged “time is getting short,” for potential Coyotes owners George Gosbee and Anthony LeBlanc to strike a deal with the City of Glendale to operate the Jobing.com Arena and Daly said the Coyotes’ uncertain status, “means that it’s possible that the team won’t play there next year.So now the focus is on the landing spot. And unfortunately for the good people of Quebec City, the tea leaves aren’t saying the Coyotes will land in La Belle Province. If the Coyotes move, speculation is they will relocate to Seattle for a variety of reasons.Moving to Seattle would keep the Coyotes in the west and maintain the integrity of realignment. It would also give the NHL an opportunity to get a foothold in the new $490 million arena that is going to be built in Seattle before the National Basketball Association moves in. There was speculation the Sacramento Kings would move to Seattle, but that possibility was quashed when the team was recently sold and the league’s board of governors rejected a move. Here’s how things could work. The Gosbee group will buy the team for an announced price of $170 million. That’s the easy part. Then comes the deal with the City of Glendale and whether or not it is willing to spend money it doesn’t have to keep the team there or risk leaving the Jobing.com Arena without a major tenant. Speculation is that if Gosbee’s group cannot come up with a suitable deal to keep the Coyotes in Glendale, Seattle then becomes a viable option. The team would play out of the antiquated Key Arena in Seattle until the new arena is built. It would not be the ideal situation, but it’s the best option at the moment.OITGDNHL???? EDIT: IMHO, I don't see this happening, this is a long shot, I wouldn't even think the Key Arena would be ready, same with the Tacoma Dome. Then again, weirder things have happened. The_Admiral
The Suns have always been a solid organization and they are rebuilding, give it a few years they should be good again. You sure about that? Don't you remember how Sarver sold their draft picks for years? "Solid organizations" don't not draft, if you'll pardon the thoroughly avoidable double-negative. NJTank
I am going by the past mainly the Suns have never had a long losing stretch and they tend to be able to get some talent and with a few years after every bad year they get back to being contenders. The_Admiral
I don't know. The whole thing had duct-tape-and-chewing-gum tendencies since about 2008. They mortgaged their future for a long time to be Just Good Enough for the frontrunners in Phoenix, and now they're finally feeling the hurt. I don't think this will be a quick turnaround for them. bosrs1
It would also give the NHL an opportunity to get a foothold in the new $490 million arena that is going to be built in Seattle before the National Basketball Association moves in.That ship has sailed for now.Indeed it has. The way the Seattle arena is structured the NBA has to move to the city BEFORE the arena can be built. So that's obviously not happening for the foreseeable future. And the fact that article gets that key fact wrong brings into question the validity of everything else said in it.That said, I can see the GDNHL sticking a team in Key Arena indefinitely simply because they're the GDNHL. IceCap
True, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the NHL moved the team to Seattle, planning on having them play in an arena that may never get built.I mean they re-aligned the entire league without thinking the Coyotes situation through. Why start now? Why start now?True. Frankly I'd bet good money the Coyotes would already have been moved to Seattle if the NBA had moved the Kings. And now that the latter didn't happen the real hold up is that the NHL doesn't know for sure what they want to do, which is why there's been the renewed push in Glendale to try and bully the new council as well as the reported meetings with Quebec City heating up again. They've got 3 cities, none of which are great. Seattle has no real arena for them as Key would be the smallest arena in the league with the worst sightlines and no future arena yet in motion. Quebec City, while hockey loving, does nothing but harm their NBC TV deal and puts a team back in the Frenchiest part of French Canada, where players have never been too keen to go. And Glendale without 15+ million dollars a year in gov't subsidies is not financially viable. When you write it out like that contraction seems the best of the 4 possible options. IceCap
Don't get me wrong, the NHL could probably stand to loose four to six teams. Won't happen though. Not only would the NHLPA protest but it would look horrible from a PR perspective.Though I wouldn't put it past Bettman if it boiled down to contraction or Quebec City. Two sunbelt teams relocating to Canada in under five years? That's unpossible! The_Admiral
I don't see how Quebec City harms the NBC deal. They rarely show the Coyotes, and indeed rarely show anyone outside the Rangers, Red Wings, Blackhawks, Flyers, Bruins, and Penguins -- or as hockey historians refer to it, the Doc Emrick Six. What it does do is greatly help their Canadian TV deal, which is up for bids very soon while the NBC deal is locked in for about eight more years. No matter, though; the NHL's plan to sell the team by buying most of the team from themselves shows that they'll do anything never to be in Quebec City ever again.
