dfwabel
insted of san jose, why can´t they just build a new ballpark in oakland ?Who, exactly, do you expect to pay for a new park?well, can´t the city and some companys who get great advertising space in the new park get together and find the money ?.They did in Miami, and they have zero spectators compared to the popular A´s1- Corporate involvement does not really pay for the construction; most often, it just goes to the ownership group as a revenue stream.2- As 'Gothamite' alluded to, the deal was so slanted toward the Marlins and away from Miami-Dade County that the Dolphins and the future MLS team are struggling to get their own plans approved. After nearly four years, the Dolphins just got Miami-Dade Commissioners approval in exchange for staying an additional 30 years and only got half the money they sought four years ago. illwauk
If I had a choice I would keep the A's over the Raiders. I'd say just the opposite... the Raiders are a much bigger part of Oakland's civic identity than the A's; even if the Raiders haven't been so great lately. Mac the Knife
Why?!?!!?!? Wanted them to move to Portland,or Indy. Not to be a homer here, but if they're going to move out of the Bay Area, the Raleigh market is without doubt the best possible option. No summertime competition for sports entertainment dollars (at the major league level) for 250 miles in any direction, with Baltimore/Washington the closest 'competition' up north, and Atlanta the closest to the south. The market at one time simultaneously supported thriving AAA and AA level franchises (the latter reverting to A ball due to travel-related issues), and with an outdoor facility similar to what they've talked about for San Jose, they'd easily draw better than they are now. And if you need proof? Consider that the Carolina Hurricanes draw remarkably well considering having an historically :censored:ty team and charging ticket prices that the A's only wish they could charge. NJTank
You know how certain stadiums and arenas have nicknames.Prudential Center- The RockMiller Park -The KegI think they should call the O.co Coliseum The Ghetto because it is faling apart, its smells of raw sewage and it is ugly.Have you ever actually been to the Coliseum, Tank?I see it on TV and it is an eyesore, I heard stories of flooding from backed up sewage that is all I need to know.I will grant you before Mount Davis it was a nice ballpark, but it has now been ruined for two decades the A's deserve better. Just my opinion.
Mac the Knife
Isn't Oakland economically terrible? It depends. If you have no competition for the sports entertainment dollar and local television revenues during the same time of year, no, not at all.But at various times during the year, the A's compete with the Raiders, Giants, 49'ers, Sharks, the Warriors, and the Earthquakes in a (comparatively) pro-soccer market. That competition plus having a :censored:hole for a stadium is a tough road to hoe.

njmeadowlanders
I've been there on two occasions and both times I had a pleasant experience. Is it the Taj Mahal? No, of course not. But I never felt like I was in a cesspool either.I loved Shea and I know you did too Tank, but Shea was much grimier than the Coliseum still is today. I know they have sewage problems in the locker rooms but if they're going to stay for a while perhaps maybe they finally go about overhauling that problem?
NJTank
Yeah Shea was special but the Mets needed to build a new park and that is why we got Citi Morgue I mean Citi Field. The Mets told the Jets to go internally combust themselves and kept a classic look. The building of Mount Davis turned a nice stadium into a steaming pile so any nostalgia was wiped out, with all the money up in Northern California how come they cant get a new stadium elsewhere. The San Jose situation is a joke, but what about other places maybe Sacramento?
