I can't wait to see what their mascot will be. Just imagine, a kraken with the extra arms hanging down from the costume.

For those old enough to remember, I'm thinking of Sigmund the Sea Monster!

I'll actually be the devil's advocate here.

I recently purchased a fitted Fanatics Canucks hat and it's in many ways superior to most of the 59/50s I have. And I have a lot. The material is nicer, the stitching on the logo is better, I can wear it in the rain and it doesn't get horrifically warped (or at least hasn't so far), and a size 7 1/8 actually fits a 7 1/8, whereas with the 59/50s a size 7 can fit too large despite being a size down and a size 7 1/4 will be too small despite being a size up, there is absolutely no consistency or quality control.

I'll never order another fitted online because I've been burned on the sizing too many times. I always have to try the one I intend to buy on in store which sucks because there are a lot of great hats you can only find online. I'm not sure if this is more of an indictment on how bad New Era has gotten than it is me defending fanatics, but my point is that outside of a few niche brands that are even more overpriced, the majority of sports merchandise you'll buy is cheap poorly made crap.

Fair point, I don't know the quality of construction of the hats, I just find the designs tedious, and there are not enough options for fitted hats. I can't find a fitted Canucks hat I like, and I need a size 8 hat, snapbacks and flexfits don't work.

Would you also let @FiddySicks know when Kraken jerseys hit the team shop? 😁

We did just have a toilet paper shortage, after all...

I'm all for restraint as well, and for an identity that plays on the idea of mystery and ambiguity it makes perfect sense. However, that logo DOES look like it could be a shoulder patch and I do feel like something more tentacle heavy could be their logo. I'm just saying. It S looks like a logo that is about to reveal what the main logo really is. I know it's meant to be mysterious, but it does feel a bit underwhelimg. Just a bit. I still like it though.

I'm Danny fkn Heatley, I play for myself. That's what fkn all stars do.

It's an homage to the Metropolitans, as per the site. And again, I'd rather restrained and simple over trying too hard to be "cool" by having a giant squid monster on the front of a jersey. It's about as old-school as a name like "Kraken" could be for a logo.

Visually, this is by lightyears the best identity in the entire NHL. I love everything about it: colors, the spiky "S", the red eye, the bevel, the anchor's top part which is the Space Needle, the great wordmark. Everything. 10/10.

Love the logo, uni's are pretty darn cool.
But KRAKEN....no!

It may have been mentioned in past posts? The fans could be known as  "Krakheads," stadium/arena, the "Krakhouse."
Oh brother. 😅

And at the beginning of each home game, the PA system will echo "Let's get it Kraken" 😄

Yes, I know. But Clash of the Titans is a Greek Mythology movie with a non-greek name slapped on their sea monster.  Here's Ray Harryhausen talking about it in regards to the 1981 movie.

Yeah, it does seem as though that's a fight that was lost thirty years ago.

I understand the origination of the legend, but it's become so much more than it originally was.  The original Norwegian folklore has expanded and been adopted across the world.  Which is kind of what legends do.  We borrowed Sinterklass from the Dutch and adapted him into Santa Claus.  Does that invalidate all our Yuletide festivities?

Some of my thoughts on the name and logo ...

  • I'm fine with the name, Seattle Kraken, works. I preferred Sockeyes, but Kraken works. I love the nautical theme.
  • I actually really love the logo and colors. I was worried with a name like Kraken we were going to get some kind of wonky cartoon squid. The negative space tentacle and glowing red eye works really well.
  • The colors work and I love that there's no white in the logo or uniforms.
  • I like the uniforms, but it also feels a bit too simple for me? Like something is missing? Not sure what ...

Overall, it's great!

I think one of the lighter blues might be the same one used on the Seattle city flag.

Also while I like the idea of the secondary, I'm not overly fond of the execution. It looks like an ice sculpture or some weird 60s idea of future technology.
