LMU
That's a lot of money for an old guy who scratched himself from a couple elimination appearances with arm fatigue.
OnWis97
Twins get Byron Buxton to sign 7 years $100M. That's a bargain if he can stay healthy. Unfortunately, that a very big if. DG_ThenNowForever
I'm so old I remember when Kevin Brown got a then-record-breaking contract (with the Dodgers?). Didn't work out for them. Also, this stinks. Soccer is the same way. Being a starting MLB pitcher is the best pro sports job, isn't it? Work every five days and make up to $45 million a year. Not bad! 1 hour ago, ShutUpLutz! said: and the drunken doodoobags jumping off the tops of SUV's/vans/RV's onto tables because, oh yeah, they are drunken drug abusing doodoobags

I'm so old I that remember Catfish Hunter signing with the Yankees for $3 million over five years, thereby becoming the highest-paid player in history by a wide margin. In that case Catfish led the Majors in wins his first season with the Yankees, won 17 the following year when the Yankees ran away with the division, and then had a series of big late-season wins the following two seasons, when the Yankees won the division by 2½ games and 1 game. Worked out pretty good. But of course there are no guarantees; you pays your money and you takes your chance. Also, this doesn't stink. If other teams want to be able to offer the kinds of contracts that the Mets can give, they should get better owners.
McCall
Mets still don't even have a manager. And up until a week or two ago, no one wanted to be their GM. https://dribbble.com/MakaioCall

Seadragon76
I remember the last time Texas spent a boatload of money on free agents... that was the days of A-Rod. Hell, same 10 year deal. They had no pitching whatsoever and that ruined them for years. Nice to see time for them is a circle... looping around and around.
tp49
Mets might actually want to spend some of their free agent money on guys who can hit with runners in scoring position. That's been their biggest problem the past couple years.

Yeah he’s been bad from day one and is probably going to cost everyone the upcoming season. Also, :censored: like this should get his ass fired. Some of the quotes from the article are so craven and heartless. Amazing how fast he destroyed that sport. BBTV
What are the major topics that are being negotiated? I'm assuming the luxury tax and maybe PED testing are the big ones. Is universal DH even in doubt anymore? "The views expressed here are mine and do not reflect the official opinion of my employer or the organization through which the Internet was accessed." You could just look it up, you lazy idiot. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/32754352/everything-need-know-mlb-looming-lockout Based on this, I don't think it'll end the season or anything. The player ask as far as lowering service time till FA is going to be a big thing, but I get why they want it - baseball is weird in that you typically don't get paid till you've been great for a while. The "keep a guy in the minors for a few weeks to hose him on service time" was always a stupid thing, and I imagine that maybe that could be a spot where the league could compromise, since getting rid of that would essentially get top prospects a year closer to free agency. The playoff suggestion is just bonkers. I don't necessarily hate more teams getting in, but the proposed system just doesn't seem "major league" - it's like a sandlot system. Awful. As for analytics costing players money, too bad. Maybe they should be grateful that many of them have been dramatically overpaid forever, and accept that we now have better ways to calculate their actual and expected value. Universal DH will keep more players employed longer and create more bidding to drive up salaries for DHs since really only half the league can bid on old sluggers that can't play the field anymore. Both sides are going to have to give here - this isn't all on Manfred.
