Actually, yeah..almost exactly like that (colorwise). Shoot, that darker blue actually looks better than I thought it would!

The Lightning brand has so much opportunity for fun and dynamism...they should defintiely lean into that more.

I had this thought the other week when I was loading my hockey bag for a game, the inside of my bag would make for a cool color combo for Tampa. An electric blue, black and white. I wouldn't hate a volt/neon yellow added somewhere, although the blue probably couldn't be this vibrant in that case. Like you said, there's definite possibility for some really interesting colors.

Looks good, but I'm surprised they didn't go with the guitar pick shape for the shield. Also, they continue the tradition of incorporating the fangs into every anniversary ending in a 5.

I still don’t think I’ll ever get over their mediocre logo. The original one wasn’t great, but the current, simplified one is worse. I still think “Team Electric Sunglasses” every time I see it, and it’s been more than a decade with the current logo.

I'm just wondering if there's a larger issue at play with weather themed team names not being able to be translated well into good logos.

The discussion surrounding the toilet bowl Hurricanes logo and the warning flag alternate logos (even that's an issue because for years they used the incorrect flag and now that they use the correct flag, it looks worse), many Thunder teams just using Thor or including lightning in their logo or OKC doing what they did.

You go through the list of weather themed team names and I don't think there's many good logos/brands.

Admittedly, it does get tough trying to translate such a [relatively] abstract concept as weather. Be it Storm, Lightning, Hurricanes, Golden Hurricane (!)...but that's also part of the fun of the design challenge. There's any number of ways to approach those. Like thunder...do you use lightning bolts, some semblace of a bison (like Marshall's Bison head), or just a script mark? (And no we won't talk OKC in here on this one. 😄) I'm sure the design team at adidas went through a similar strategy-planning process when attacking the Kraken identity...after all, just how do you visually translate a mythical sea creature into a tangible brand identity...and an attractive one at that? Lotta room for latitude...but also that much more room to get it wrong (which, of course, they did not...they smacked that one right over the upper deck out into Puget Sound somewhere.)

That said, when it comes to established/major pro sports, I (and most of us all) have observed that the decision-makers of those organizations will more often than not take the "safe" route rather than take what could otherwise be too big a risk..probably for similar reasons as above. I get it from a business/merchandising standpoint, but still...this is part of what I miss about the 90s. Say what you want about that decade, but you ain't never seen so many calculated risks taken at one period of time in your life.

It's definitely a problem. I've never seen a Hurricanes logo, real or conceptual, that looked any good

Well then you've never seen the Lethbridge Hurricanes logo history,

They include Taz and later HurrJcanes that Washington made them stop using.

(I hope the sarcasm is taken)

I really like the taz logo for a 90s minor league team. It doesn't make any sense other than spinning animal = hurricane, but I'm digging it.

For what it's worth, I don't mind the Carolina Hurricanes primary logo, either. It's certainly in the bottom half (maybe bottom 10 even) of the NHL, but it's not one that immediately comes to mind as awful or in need of a complete rebrand.

Idk, I think the Cincinnati Cyclones’ latest logo is really clean.

It even looks like a Hurricanes concept somebody on these boards would’ve made.

That reminds me that this logo absolutely ruled (for minor league hockey, anyway), especially on the Flames' pedestal jersey template

Love that Cyclones logo. Not hard at all to imagine that for a Cincinnati NHL team in a world where they got the expansion over Columbus. Cincinnati always felt like an NHL town the way St. Louis does, anyway.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

When the new uniform supplier takes over, i hope the first thing they do is removing the :censored:in laces that serve no purpose

(sorry to hawks fans, myself included, for this vomit inducing photo)

Fortunately Nike has both of those covered. As for the laces, you're kind of SOL on that one.

Also the enormous/double toned collars, been ugly since day 1.

Decent, but any logo that relies on a faux beveling/shadow effect is a compromised design in my opinion. It might look good at a controlled size and application, but the second you need to use it black and white, or reduce it super small for example, it suffers big time and loses clarity.  (not to say I'm perfect, look at my avatar. I use it. But for a professional sports team that would replicate the logo for countless applications I would never)

I honestly have never had a big problem with the Hurricanes' logo - the whole toilet bowl thing is dumb. I think it's a perfectly okay design and I could list about 7 other logos that I'm less a fan of.

I'm Danny fkn Heatley, I play for myself. That's what fkn all stars do.

Rumors on Twitter saying New Era is pushing for the NHL jersey contract. That would give them CFL and NHL.

And the city of Buffalo. Odd direction for New Era to go in but I'm open to it. I'm not really a fan of what they've done with the CFL but its hard to tell how much of that is them and how much of that is the CFL bungling another area of their operation.
