nm Ridley covered it.

I had no idea though that “I just want to talk uniform aesthetics” was code for “I want to bash corporations at every turn and pretend like I want to boycott the league”.

My bad guys.

This is a board meant to discuss sports logo and uniform aesthetics. Uniform ads fall under that and are fair game. Don't like it? Don't like it? Sorry 🤷🏻‍♂️

Counterproposal: The design of ads are fair game, the changing of the sponsors are fair game…the endless bashing of the entities seems out of scope in terms of “uniform aesthetics” (especially when it’s just echo chamber discussion for the most part as we all would rather not have ads) and better suited for a another thread or category on the board. The sponsor logo, and the people on the BoG and in the C-Suite, are two different things.

Examples:

“That Rakuten logo on the Warriors jerseys is too big and looks awful, just like all the other ads this year” - perfect for Logos/Uniforms

”Rakuten is just another greedy business and billionaires are terrible and ruining the game and my life for introducing even more ads in the game.” - perfect for Sports in General/The Lounge

We discuss sports aesthetics here. The idea that we're not going to discuss part of that because it annoys some people is baffling to me.

I had no idea complaining about third party corporate greed was sports aesthetics. Two different buckets in my view.

Oh well I’m definitely looking forward to the same bored people having the same complaints about corporations and billionaires while avoiding discussions about actual jersey aesthetics over and over again. I didn’t know this was a group therapy board.

I think you're projecting some other stuff onto a discussion where it isn't warranted.

A lot of people don't like the way uniforms look with ads, and corporate greed is part of that. If this turns into a socialist circle jerk we'll be on that but "I don't like how ads have impacted uniforms" is fair game.

Mate if anyone here needs therapy it’s you, you’re the only one going off the deep end about it.

Because it’s become really really really old. If played 3 Blind Mice on a recorder all the time for years you’d tell me to find another song. If I told you the same knock knock joke 50 times in a row you’d be hard pressed to laugh on the last one.

I look forward to reading news about new uni updates. I’ve been on here 18+ years. Seeing the same “I hate corporation” posts doesn’t add any value to the sports logos section. We all agree to an extent already so not sure as to the need to constantly push the point other than to fish for an argument. Oh well, I’ll learn to ignore it.

For the majority of players who aren’t captains, the patch will look fine in it’s current location.

just sayin

The Captain is the first player to raise the Stanley Cup during the initial presentation.

The next 5+ years of Championship photos for the history books are going to look so awful.

Not saying ads need to go completely. Teams need income. Just do a better job with the jersey ad placement and remove the flying board ads.

Uniform advertisements are not and will never be a necessity for a big four league

Someone on Youtube brought up the pandemic, income loss, and having something to fall back on if there's difficult times. But it's definitely not a necessity for the most profitable franchises.

Maybe it'll benefit teams that can't sell out their building every game...

We're past the grace period for "we need some extra cash because no one can come to games"

Arenas have been full for two seasons now.

Even then, nobody's stupid here. We all know that "added revenue streams" are a one-way street. Once something becomes normalized, that genie doesn't return to its lamp. I don't imagine for one minute in 2020-'21 that anybody here believed "helmet advertisements for this season only". The NHL has never been a truthful organization. And once we broke that threshold of "ads on uniform parts", it's was only a matter of time for more to follow.

Since the COVID season, we've added helmet ads, jersey ads, and got to hear the NHL tout their digital TV board ads so much (like that's something we're supposed to be impressed by, rather than something we try to actively ignore like we always did before with board ads). I'm terrified to wonder what's next.

I hope whoever that quote came from realizes the NBA also has multiple types of court ads, jersey ads and TV ads as well, so they're just as ad-riddled as the NHL is lmao

The NBA banned the Bucks and the Sixers from wearing cream uniforms due to the digital ad interferance, so unless the NHL has also banned a team from wearing a certain uniform color, then they are, if anything, worse than the NHL in terms of advertisements.

I willingly follow food ads on Instagram because I enjoy looking at pictures of pizza. So what do they do? They force more ads of things I don't need onto my feed without the possibility of removing them on my phone. I'm not against every advertisement in the world. But I don't want the things I use to become a cesspool.

The NBA is going too far. Putting corporate greed over a fan favorite on court product is terrible.

The NBA not being greedy ship sailed decades ago when they rigged a draft lottery to put Patrick Ewing in the biggest media market in the country and when they rigged a WCF to make sure that LA played in the Finals instead of Sacramento.
