There's no asterisk for 2017, either. This isn't the NCAA, they aren't going to take a World Series away. Astros players on that team will continue to pay the public price for what happened, and that's that. Guys like Beltran, Cora, and probably unfairly Hinch will always have that blemish. Do I even actually care that the Astros stole signs in 2017? Not one iota. However.... The outcome of a play doesn't correlate to the seriousness of the level of cheating - in any sport. Just because there wasn't a home run or RBI on every pitch does not make it a lesser infraction. Baseball is an incredibly hard sport, even when you know what's coming you still aren't going to square up on it more often than not. It's still a very clear advantage, though. Adding to this: 'Look what they did' is a horrible reason/excuse. 1 Quote It's where I sit.

Did the Astros take it a step further? Yes. However, the "we can with without, just look at the year we didnt win the World Series" is an odd take. They've been in 5 straight ALCS and won 3 pennants. There's no denying they're a very good team.
DoctorWhom
They're a good team but that cheating scandal taints them. This wasn't some regular sign stealing crap every team does to an extent, it was one of the biggest and most egregious cheating scandal in decades. Astros deserve all the 💩 they get for it. 2
FiddySicks
WTF is going on with the boards today? I just had a whole post that had weird spacing between the letters and when I went to edit it, it just disappeared. Anyway, the gist of my original post is that the pearl clutching everyone has done over this Astros thing has really just made me realize how unserious of an institution baseball is, and it looks really goofy to get so worked up over what’s essentially a children’s game with a bad faith capitalistic spin. No need for me to follow any of that any longer. 1 2 Quote On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) Sport
The Braves catching the Mets is the least surprising thing I've seen in sports since the Cardinals pulling an impossible run out of their butts last September.

Dynasty
Not liking the O's chances at the postseason. Shame... I know they got rid of some of their better players midseason and weren't expected to be in the Wild Card race, but I was really yearning for them to do more than just finish with a winning record. Too much to ask I guess.
Guest
Dodgers clinched playoff spot for the 10th consecutive season, which is the 3rd longest streak. Using today's rules (with or without wild card), would a team have an even longer playoff streak than the Braves (14), and, if so, which team and how many consecutive seasons? Today's rules are with three wild cards, so I'm not sure how you can say "without". Given the wild card, it's probable that there will be a team that breaks that record eventually, but it won't mean nearly as much as what the Braves accomplished. Also, who whoever breaks it won't play and lose to the '93 Phillies, which is kinda big when evaluating the historical significance of team accomplishments. I suppose with or without THESE many wild cards. Used to be that there were no playoffs and just the WS, so going back to 1903, would any of the teams that didn't end up winning the pennant been in the playoffs had they existed from the get-go? Sorry: I meant the past, not the future.

Ehh, forget that, let's see if they can pull a 2001 Mariners (or a 1906 Cubs) and win 116. (By the way, I think the Dodgers can break Atlanta's record unless they suffer an injury riddled year between 2023 and 2026, and I'm an Astros fan)

Dilbert
Remember at the beginning of the season when Reds president Phil Castellini shot off his mouth and told Reds fans "Where you gonna go?" Well its definitely not the postseason thats for sure. 1 Quote Signature intentionally left blank

I went to like 15 last year when the team was actually fun and not terrible. And the boycott hasn't even been that hard. It's been surprisingly easy to put them out of my mind. FC Cincinnati has gotten 4 games out of me instead.
