2022 NFL Season week by week uniform match-up combos: From HOF Game to Super Bowl LVII

I think the Chiefs should go all icy white with white end zones. ❄️❄️❄️ Maybe even introduce an alternate white helmet?

And then the Eagles should go all black with black endzones 🔥🔥🔥

All jokes aside, I would be quite shocked if the Chiefs wore white pants. Teams pretty much never wear any sort of alternate combination for the Super Bowl aside from those Rams games when the throwback was clearly the better look and the league gave them approval.

That wasn't an alternate or throwback. That was their actual official home uniform that year. No need to get league approval.

That's kinda the point of the forum.

Ya ya, we get all that. But for folks to constantly bring up how they hate how socks are worn in 2023 when it's not even on-topic, it gets tired after the 10000000th time.

"Teams that wear white have win the most Super Bowls. YOU HAVE TO WEAR WHITE TO WIN!"

"This team lost last week in all white. They can't wear all white again because they lost! It's cursed!"

Yeah, give me sock talk.

Socks are seen as part of the official uniform (to some of us) and we are members of a website that literally discusses uniform shenanigans amongst other dealings.

Getting bent out of shape over people talking about socks is a weird flex.

Discussion about white socks not looking good with white pants does get a bit tedious at the end of 20 weeks. We don’t have to recreate a dead horse just to beat it time and time again.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Think they mean last season when they wore the more traditional looking white uniform as opposed to bone

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

if you can't take the complaining, get out of the forum.

So we have team owners tweeting things like this…

…but superstition isn’t worth discussing on this board? It clearly exists in some cases and some of us will make predictions based off of that. I don’t think it’s a coincidence, for instance, that the Bengals (who often alternate between white and black pants) wore white pants for four straight playoff games after winning the first three.

It baffles me that people on these boards consider the face mask equipment as opposed to a uniform element.  You people know who you are and should feel shame!

It’s not a coincidence because teams always lock into one home combo and one away combo for the playoffs. Awhile back, I combed through the playoff combos of all of the mix and match teams in the mix and match era, and there was only one instance of a team wearing more than one color of pants with the same jersey in the playoffs (the 2013 Saints wore white over black in the wildcard and white over gold in the divisional). Aside from that one exception, I’m confident in peddling my theory that teams must designate one home combo and one clash combo that are to be worn throughout the playoffs, and that the Rams would have worn white in Tampa if the Bucs wore red.

That aside, I feel like I’m going insane seeing people argue that there’s any reason the Eagles would wear their greens for this game other than the fact that it’s their home jersey. They never wear white at home as it is. There was never a second thought within the organization as to which jersey they should wear and why. Superstition is an exception and usually makes actual sense when it happens. Here is every non-Cowboys example of WAH in the Super Bowl all time:

-Bucs in LV (historical WAH precedent)

-Pats in LII (6-0 in white then, 0-3 in not white)

-Broncos in 50 (0-3 in orange, 2-0 in not orange then)

-Steelers in XL (First 6th seed to ever make it, won all playoff games on the road)

-Washington in XVII (historical WAH precedent)

I think the only reason this becomes a discussion at all year in and year out is because it’s tough to have to go from having a dozen matchups per week to discuss throughout the season to having only one left before having to go through another dark age until next August (God help us if there isn’t a new uni reveal to tackle during that time). Sometimes, crazily enough, a matchup is just the home team’s home jersey versus the away team’s away jersey.

@BathysphereThe Pats had worn twice in blue (36, 38) but had just lost 42 and 46 in blue when they went WAH for the Super Bowl. That said, your greater point still stands. Teams usually wear what they've worn all season unless there's some big reason not to.

I don't think the Rams set some precedent about wearing alternates, I think everybody used their common sense about those uniforms and the team had already set in motion their plans to elevate it.

EDIT: No wait, actually, four times (It’s an alt, but it’s still a road uniform).

Bucs in SB55: As you can tell, doing my very best to forget 2020.

Rams in SB56: The league called that audible "You guys aren't wearing that bone sh:t in the Supe."

Technically the Bengals were the home team for SB56, so this wasn't an example of the home team choosing to wear white even though the game was in their home stadium.
