MLB 2023 Uniform/Logo Changes

If that jersey turns out to just be gold with the letters PGH on it, that will be quite the letdown.  There was a ton of inspiration they could have used, such as the vest jerseys, the We Are Family uniforms and several ideas they could of used when the Pirates didn't play in the legally required gold and black of a Yinzer big league team such as placket lettering. But instead, the team is just going to use a plain gold shirt.

I hope I'm proved wrong, but the Pirates CC looks to be the most boring CC yet, and probably will only be topped by teams who really don't want to take part and are perfectly happy with just the two uniforms (Detroit, Yankees)

Let’s me real the twins should of never dropped gold. Made them a different them then the other R/W/B teams.

That was just about one of the worst decisions the club has ever made… As a Twins fan I am so so happy they ditched it.

Disagree with the Twins standpoint, but I do think the Guardians should have added bronze or a dark gold to their color scheme to go with the Guardian of Traffic.

Y'all, I hate to defend Nike because they truly have put out some low quality designs and made decisions that we may disagree with, but it's time to stop pretending that they are ruining the "integrity" of sports uniforms. Remember that various manufacturers (across all levels of varying sports) continue to produce *alternate* jerseys that we have deemed unnecessary and ugly, not just Nike.

Adidas gave us sleeved NBA jerseys and some terrible college football jerseys. Reebok continues to have a reputation for sending the NHL uniforms into their dark age (though that wasn't due to alternates). Under Armor also has a questionable track record when it comes to their college football creations. Majestic (with assistance from Century21) gave us Turn Ahead the Clock jerseys, plus each of the unneeded holiday alts from the 2010s. Each creative team has proven to have highs and lows.

Nike has mismanaged the quality of their uniform designs (across all of their leagues), but can we end the narrative that they are the sole evil entity running jersey aesthetics into the ground? I'll agree that they have created some of the most notable "bad-alts" in the last few years, but they are just continuing a trend that multiple manufacturers have been taking part in for decades. I just ask that we spread the blame to all manufacturers; there is more than enough to go around, and it will finally break up the stale and repetitive "Nike bad" mentality that makes its way into every conversation.

Exactly. If anything, the teams are the ones to blame for terrible branding decisions since, y'know...they're the ones who tell the manufacturers what to produce; Nike is just an easy scapegoat since it's their name attached to the jerseys themselves.

Like, I don't think Nike sets out to design with the mindset of "How can we completely mangle this team's jerseys so much that it forces another redesign a bit later?".

Every league has had and will continue to have eras with design fads that uniform nuts like us will find gaudy, appalling or other such words; it's just the nature of how sports branding works that if one team does something that proves incredibly successful, other teams will copy it to mimic that success. The 90's was full of fads, the 2000's had fads, the 2010's had fads, and future eras will have fads of their own.

Just be glad we're not getting 30 new uniforms per season! 😆

That's probably gonna happen in 2024, when MLB is yoked to the Nike template.

I really don’t mind the trend a lot of the leagues have lately of doing a “uniform series”, and think there have been some really great alts that have come out from it all. But baseball has done the worst job BY FAR. There isn’t a single one of these CityConnect connect unis that has been good enough to keep long term, and every single set released after the first season has been straight up trash. I’ll be happy when this is over and hope that none of these teams keep these around long term.

Bold to assume this will end after City Connect. Nike will just move to some other series of uniforms. I think the long term plan is to have American sports mirror the rest of the world where there are multiple new uniforms available to buy every year.

The only two that I enjoy are the Rockies and the Angels. I think I like the Rockies just because of how insanely boring their day to day sets are. The addition of green is nice.

I think the Angels set is great actually. I can't tell you how in the world it is a City Connect uniform, but I like the vibe of it.

I would say an MLB version of "Reverse Retro" would be cool, but it feels like some teams have already done that with their City Connects (Mariners, for example).
