I used to get yelled at for wearing Vans to baseball practice. I’m still mostly a wear skate shoes to do everything kind of guy, so I approve. I climbed a mountain last week in a pair of vans, which I also wore to my wedding the month before.

Lorenzen and Cotham both wear Vans, I think.

Lorenzen's had custom Vans cleats for a few years now. I wish they were a real thing (for us common folk/beer league softball players) because I'd totally get a pair.

Does some actual cleat maker make them and then put a Vans "skin" on them?  Or does Vans (or whoever owns them) have the ability to manufacture baseball cleats?  If the latter, wouldn't they market them?

I believe there are companies that can take a regular sneaker and attach cleats or maybe even just re-sole them with cleats.

But they still have to be able to move like athletic shoes, no?  I get that he's a pitcher so he doesn't do as much athletic stuff as other players, but if you can just resole skateboard shoes and wear them in a major-league game, doesn't that kinda dispel any marketing nonsense that Nike or UA say about how their cleats are superior?

To be fair, those are a pair of Vans Ultraranges, which are basically Vans version of “athletic” shoes. So while it’s technically a skate shoe, it’s built more like a traditional running/athletic shoe.

Orioles in Orange at Mariners in Teal is one of the greatest uniform matchups in MLB history.

I wouldn’t go that far, but it was really easy on the eyes. The orange and teal looked great against each other, and I especially loved how both teams had the dark caps with colored brims to match the jerseys. I’m not always a proponent of color vs. color in baseball, but this was/is an example of it being done just about perfectly:

I would say skate shoes are pretty much made for lots of movement so I don't think players would have anything to worry about really. Interestingly enough I see people skating in Jordan 1's now.

This reminds me that back in the day NFL players use to wear basketball shoes on astroturf.

I thought it was an eyesore. It reminded me of little league baseball when each team only had one uniform.

This was the annual Phillies alumni weekend, and they were honoring the 40th of the '83 World Series team, and the 30th of the 93 team.  Broadcaster and former pitcher Larry Andersen threw out the first pitch wearing a 83/93 Frankenjersey, as he is the only pitcher to have pitched for both of those teams:

I hope the White Sox do a similar thing for the 1983 and 1993 AL West championship teams. Then they can give a combined jersey to the only player to play for both of those teams, Carlton Fisk.  (Even though Fisk didn't make it to the end of the 1993 season.)

Why would they honor AL West titles. Has a team ever done this?

Because a division title is a championship to be proud of.

And, yes, the White Sox themselves have honoured the 1983 team. Also, the Blue Jays have honoured the 1985 AL East champions.
