Never forget.

Quote

“Dave [Dombroski] was the kind of guy who didn’t have much a process,” said one source familiar with the team’s thinking. “He is very good at making decisions right now based on instincts and advice. John [Henry] likes a more process-oriented approach. And based on where the team is right now–the next couple of years could be rough–they don’t trust him to make those decisions.”

That pitching staff been playing out of their minds.

The bullpen is waaaaay too shaky.  They have only one lefty reliever that can be trusted, and he can really only go one inning.  They have a couple guys that are (usually) great, but a lot that are simply awful.  This is not the pitching staff that your typical pennant winner has.  I was there tonight and it was kinda sad that so many people sulked when they brought David Robertson in, because we knew he'd blow it.  Thank god their new manager had the wherewithal to get Friday's starter warming up just in case.  It's a small sample size, but Rob Thompson is the best Phillies manager i've seen in my lifetime.  Literally every questionable decision he's made (or not made) since he took over has paid off.

This Phillies team is really fun and I’m thrilled for Harper but it’s forever gonna irk me they used this meh remix of a terrible cover of an amazing song as their happy funtimes anthem.

So the story with that is kinda funny.  After they clinched against the Cardinals, the NBC SportsNet cameras were filming them celebrating in the clubhouse and that song just happened to come up on the playlist.  It's one of >100 songs on the playlist, but it's the one that everyone just happened to hear, so it became the "fan's anthem".  I gotta say that I thought it was corny at first, but it's so goddam fun singing it with everyone in the stadium, listening to it blast from everyone's cars after the game, hear random groups of people singing it on the streets (including mine), etc.  It's really fun.  I also think it's fun that this version is sung from the POV of a gay man.  I think it's great that the song has been adopted by a sports team and fan base.

Also, this from Friday night (go into the actual tweet and play them both, but the one on the right has your song.  For some reason only one clip is embedded here.)

The Dodgers AND Padres both having dream seasons and neither even winning a pennant is so damn funny.

Phillies in 5 over Houston, I’m telling you.

Does Dusty Baker need a World Series title to get into Cooperstown?  Or is he in regardless?

He probably gets in regardless, he’s fringe if not better that HOFer as a player and manager without the WS but both combined I believe almost surely put him over the top

He's in based on longevity as both a player and manager, even if he's not really a HOFer in either one.  While reading some about him on Wikipedia right now, I saw that he said that he prefers Black and Latino players for hot games, and that white players handle cold better.  In 2003.  I'd like to see the science that supports that.

One thing I wanted to complain about but held off on because the Phillies ended up winning, was that this compressed playoff schedule is terrible on the players.  The weather in Philadelphia was miserable yesterday, and there were puddles on the field.  JT Realmuto was literally squatting in a puddle, and Seranthony Dominguez - who threw all of 2 wild pitches all year - threw 3 in the 7th inning alone, and the pitchers were constantly exchanging balls.  There were also two lengthy delays due to Padres players (who were very clearly trying to stall the game to get Wheeler out... and that's not fandom speaking, that legitimately looked like their strategy) went back to the dugout to re-apply grip to their bats and change into dry gloves.

It was not safe for any of the players, and a catcher shouldn't have to squat in a puddle.  Not only that, but when the grounds crew came out to apply the Diamond Dry and rebuild the mound, they did it  in between half innings - meaning that the Padres got the benefit of pitching from a solid mound, catching on a solid plate area, and fielding on dry-ish dirt.  Then by the time the Phillies took the field, it was crap again until they cleaned it up for the Padres.

I don't know what would have happened had the conditions been perfect (but let's be honest, Zack Wheeler probably goes 8 ), but since they had no off day between cross country trips and had to get the game in, it was a sloppy mess that put players at risk and had a direct impact on the score of the game, and the teams weren't on a level playing field (literally.)

I get why the schedule was compressed, but that simply doesn't work when playoff games are on the east coast, and it shouldn't be at the expense of safety and the integrity of the game.  Phillies won so at the end of the day it doesn't matter this time... but it might matter next time.

What do you mean no off day? They were off on Thursday, in between games 2 and 3.

If San Diego had won yesterday, they'd be playing in California tonight.  So no travel day between games 5 and 6, which made it impossible to postpone the game, which otherwise should have happened.

I think this is the first time in a while were both LCS series were decided in five games or less. I'm lazy to look up when the last time that happened was, but I'm sure it's been a hot minute.

"And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life... You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry... you will someday."

I actually liked the condensed series, but I agree, having a travel day between cities should have been used this year. Hopefully that gets fixed by starting the regular season a week earlier. Also, MLB needs to lock down hotels in each city so you don't have the BS of the Guardians being spread across town the night before the deciding game of the series. The NFL wouldn't let that happen, MLB should be able to ensure that as well.
