Minnesota Twins New Identity

I was listening to the Twins podcast 'Gleeman and the Geek' who had Twins writer Dan Hayes on.

Hayes briefly mentioned what he had heard about the Twins' new uniforms.  He said he heard about the uniforms is that the Twins were "moving in the wrong direction."

The only other things I have read is that there will be a M logo with a star above it and supposedly Kasota Gold remains.

Heard some "discouraging" news about the Twins new uniforms from the "Mackey and Judd" show which airs on KSTP-AM 1500 in the Twin Cities.

"JUDD ZULGAD: 'I'm hearing scary things ... I'm not sure how we're gonna feel about this.'

PHIL MACKEY: 'What is is-what kind of changes are we talking about here?'

ZULGAD: 'There is rumors of a star involved, there's a lot of scuttlebutt that scares me.'

 MACKEY: 'A star?'

PATRICK REUSSE: 'About letting a star go?'

ZULGAD: 'No, about a star in the uniform, incorporated, like the North Stars star.'"

Why are they making this complicated?

So now that two of you have basically said the same thing:

If any of this is indeed true, then it may confirm a sneaking suspicion I've had about the Twins' new branding ever since I first heard about it: they're going for more of a "cosmic" theme, specifically Gemini (aka The--wait for it--Twins), despite the fact that their across-the-ricef brethren in green have already incorporated elements of that into their identity.

Now, for optimists sake, I'll allow for the possibility that if they keep the cosmic details toned down enough, this may turn out halfway decent. (And I won't lie: I once sat and brainstormed about a Twins identity based around Gemini.) However, if they are indeed going this way and try to overdo it, I don't see it turning out good at all.

(And now that I think about this...perhaps this all lends some credence to the rumors of a brighter blue being included next go-round...)

It would be incredibly like the tone-deaf Twins to retain the worst part of their current identity. Worried we will get a Timberwolves style rebrand that will inevitably be walked back in seven years.

You know what? I actually like that idea. The Twins brand is so incredibly dull that a pivot to Gemini theming is a welcome move. If they're going to do that, though, navy, red, and gold is not the color scheme to use. I'm especially interested by the idea of a M + star logo. I bet it'll be leagues better than the TC is.

Using the Gemini to refer to the Twin Cities is very much an outsider thing. The only place I’ve seen that happen is here on the boards, from people who don’t live or have lived in the Twin Cities. I understand the whole “Twins” connection, but it honestly feels incredibly random, and I would be very disappointed if that’s the direction the Twins are going. I wouldn’t be apposed to an M and Star logo added to the rotation, but as long as it doesn’t replace the TC logo. That logo should never leave the Twins caps ever again.

And for the love of Pete, please ditch the kasoka gold 🙄

Wouldnt a Minnesota star kind of encroach on the Astros star logo?

Not necessarily, at least not stylistically.

Now their across-the-river brethren Wild, on the other hand...that's the one to watch out for, if the Twins are indeed going that route, considering the Wild have already worked elements of the cosmos into their current branding...

There are 2 teams with "Sox" in their name in the American League and they coexist. It is ok.

That's not a good reference at all considering those teams were named waaaaaaay before branding and merchandising was even a care in anyone's mind, and before teams even (probably) had trademarks on any kinds of design elements.

I just hope if the Twins do make wholesale changes (which I kinda hope they don’t), I hope that they actually go all the way with it and don’t do something dumb like make a bunch of changes to the logos yet keep the navy, red, and gold. Like, if you’re going to insist on making a bunch of changes, don’t half ass it. I don’t like that the Guardians did that, but I’m coming around to the idea because of the circumstance. The Twins won’t get that same kind of a pass to me if they keep the most overused color scheme in the league yet change everything else.

No, and Houston aren't the only team to use stars/a star in their branding.

The Phillies play with two stars on their script with the earliest version of that script dating from 1944, The Washington Nationals use two stars on their roundel, the Texas Rangers use two stars in their roundel and one on their TX alternate logo, the Rays use a star/sunburst thing on their script and the Mariners use a nautical star in their logo

As long as the Twins don't blatantly copy the Astros, it should be fine.

This feels extremely Brandiose: "the name is in reference to the state's largest cities, adjacent to each other, co-existing. We decided it had to do with astrology instead." I want to say they did that with the Arkansas Travelers becoming aliens who were traveling here from another galaxy. They did something stupid with aliens somewhere and now someone else is doing something stupid here.

EDIT: it was the Asheville Tourists, who were tourists...from another galaxy

Whatever happens, they BETTER not get rid of the "TC" mongram...it is one of the perfect cap logos in the majors (right next to the Yankees NY, the Tigers Old English D and my Brewers' ball-and-glove).

Are we sure that's not the City Connect uniform?
