Damn its almost like a critical part of nostalgia is viewing the past through rose coloured glasses.

I remember when the name change discourse first started, someone came up with Redwolves and a :censored:ing icy white concept art because “that :censored: sounds/looks tough bruh” and people ran with it.

When in fact, it sucks, is a horrendous option, and absolutely needs to stay as far away from this team as possible.

How would you and the fans feel if they switched from 'Washington' to 'DC'? Doubt they'd ever go that far but just curious on how the DMV would feel about it if they went for a complete reset on the team name.

They're the St. Louis Football Cardinals without the historical cachet.

That’s exactly what’s so great about these. The first ever bar fight I ever saw was between a Raiders fan and a Seahawks fan and my first reaction was, wait, there’s a team called the Seahawks? They were so irrelevant for so long that it was almost cute to Niners fans to have them in their division. Then the Seahawks got a new stadium and got more competitive and Niners fans didn’t like that so

much all of the sudden. Then Nike and Pete Carroll and LoB happened and they REALLY didn’t like that. I’ve gone from not knowing who they were to liking them a bit to REALLY hating them to having a bit of an earned respect for them now. Not too many teams in the league have had that much of a well rounded story arc in my head narrative.

How would we feel if Washington changed their colors to blue, black, and bronze á la the Capitals and Wizards old colors?

The Icy White nonsense or the Red Wolves moniker?
Because i agree with the icy white nonsense, but the name should have been the Red Wolves, never the Commanders.

I feel the XFL has tainted that option.

People like the 1990's Seahawks when they were below .500 and those years from 1991-1994, they usually were either last place. Then 1995-1997 sucked too.

If the Bengals Throwback to the 1990's Bengals, I will laugh as those 90's loons enjoyed that 3-13 records the Bengals vomited. Heck, when Jeff Blake was there, it did not even make any difference and they were 6-10 to 8-8 at times.

But the Seahawks? Geez, from 1991-1997, they sucked royal butt that time.  Going from 4-12 to 7-9 A LOT! So, why celebrate that decade when the Seahawks were below .500?

The Seahawks should of celebrated the 1983-1990 seasons when they were a very decent team and were playing much better than usual.

With regards to the “why the 90’s?” discussion, the official launch site for the throwback explains this.

https://throwback.seahawks.com/home

Quote

Why the 90s? A pop culture revolution took off in the Seattle region in the 90s, stormed the nation’s music scene, forever transformed the world’s technology landscape, and changed our relationship with coffee. Rock icons Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains all exploded in the early-90s from small venues like Re-Bar, El Corazon and The Central Saloon. Now tech giant Microsoft introduced platforms we can’t live without, and Starbucks became synonymous with coffee and created meaningful and lasting relationships between coffee drinkers everywhere and their baristas. Seattle left its mark on the world in the 90s and changed the course of history forever.

So if I’m understanding right it’s less about the teams who wore the uniform and more about Seattle’s influence on the decade itself.

BTW, the launch site is awesome and really well done. The AOL dial-up hit and all the little 90’s homages really brought me back.

I guess I'm interested in uniforms from a visual standpoint, and don't really care about the team's record when wearing it. I can see why the normie fans would get bent out of shape by a team wearing a uniform they played terrible in, but that's not my problem...  I'm just here for the fabric.  This "but that team was terrible" attitude is what's keeping us from seeing a Steelers batwing uniform.

The launch site is indeed great.  That dial-up internet tone…right in the feels.

People sometimes forget that this is a sports logos board.  We should be mature enough to evaluate a design independently of whether we're fans of the team* or a rival team, and how good the team is/was.  I'm also here for the clothes.  If we're discussing a permanent change and whether it's a good decision or not, we can talk about historical branding and subconscious associations and all that while also evaluating the design completely objectively.

*I do appreciate it when long-time fans of a team chime in to add some context around why there's some little quirk on the uniform, or why some pattern has some significance.  Stuff that's lost in all the BS Nikese.  Like the Portland airport carpet (*runs away*).

Posted this on BigFooty yesterday but thought I'd share it here too. This kit would look unreal with the current colour scheme (Just squint your eyes and pretend its the current Seahawks logo on the shoulder and helmet lol)

A similar shade of the blue as the Cowboys paired with silver? No thanks. The first pic is the look that should be permanent for the Seahawks. The current design is garbage and so is the design they switched to in 2002 ( I think that was the year).

I am once again asking for the Red Tails.

(Mod edit - no politics) I do like the Red Tails name. Historically speaking, it works and it keeps the word "red" in the name.  Thing is, I think they should go with the exact uniform design the 'Skins had and update the logo accordingly.

…and also, the Seahawks ‘90s look is identical to their 1983-89 look, which saw them make multiple playoff appearances, including a run to the conference title game in 1983. So, the ‘90s is more recent, and the city of Seattle had a more pronounced effect on popular culture in that decade, but these were also worn in the ‘80s when the team was actually good for the first time. So it’s kind of a win-win, I would imagine, for the Seahawks. Even if we are leaving out that the colors really pop with the way they’re arranged in that uniform.

I don't really understand the "It was a bad team" reason for not having a throwback. A throwback uniform is about evoking nostalgia and making fans remember things no matter what.

Case in point the early 90's Sacramento Kings uniforms came back a few years ago. Those teams weren't very good and never made the playoffs, but there is a nostalgic sentiment about those teams, they may not have played well but fans have good memories and people remember the look.
