It's a photo finish between the alarm clock Bucs and the Commanders, and someone should burn that photo.

The browns with there whole “the contrast stitching represents the hard working people of Cleveland” jerkoff bullscat have entered the chat.

I'm actually glad the current uniform doesn't have pewter socks (except obviously for the Color Rush) because it means we don't get pewter leggings.

Besides how the color makes them look gross and unwashed, whatever they were trying to do with the sleeves looks horrific, and the yellow trim on the jerseys and pants vibrates against the bone color and disappears from a distance. The stripes on the bone pants having only yellow and white was a questionable decision too. They also sometimes ruin the superior blue jerseys by wearing them with bone pants.

I'm waiting for the day they go with white-over-bone or vice versa... now that will truly be an atrocity.

The shoulder horn has always reminded me of  a side view of the Gateway Arch ironically.

When the Rams first moved to St. Louis, they used this logo below. That shoulder horn always reminds of the yellow of the arch in that logo. The angles are different, but I see it every time.

From a distance, I didn’t think these uniforms looked that bad. It had a few elements that I prefer to the current ones:

—The brighter red

—Red socks at home, pewter socks on the road

—Incorporation of the creamsicle orange

The problems lie in the details. The atrocious numbers, shoulder yokes, asymmetrical sleeves…weird striping…oversized logo…

If they used that red/orange and the original 1997 pewter, they’d have a great looking set. We appreciate the current getup now because it’s not the bonkers 2014 look, but today it just looks horribly boring. Drab pewter, WAH constantly, more black than red. Snooze.

I agree with this in the sense that the elements you mentioned (the brighter red, the sock choices, and creamsicle orange) worked well for that set. I honestly didn't even mind the shoulder yokes or the unconventional striping.

However, ultimately I disagree that implementing those elements would work better with the traditional set. In my concepts, I've attempted incorporating the creamsicle orange in place of the regular orange, but with the way the numbers are styled, it doesn't work as well. The creamsicle orange is too bright, and it presents opposite problems on the home & away jerseys: on the red jersey, the orange blends too much with the white of the numbers, and on the white jersey, the bright orange stands out too much from the red. The regular orange works better for what the traditoinal set is doing. To illustrate:

Opinions are subjective, so I respect if you prefer the bright colors of the right, but I personally prefer what they currently have on the left.

Similarly, I think the darker red and the black socks work better with the traditonal set, as it contributes to the dark, dreary look which I appreciate.

In essence, although the 2014 set tried doing some things that combined the two previous identities up to that point, I think it's best to keep them separate, but both still prominent in their own way, like the team is currently doing.

For my money those are the worst uniforms in NFL history. There isn't a single good decision anywhere in that steaming pile.

I actually liked how big they made their helmet logo, though I didn’t like the stylistic changes to the logo itself. I also enjoyed the brighter shade of red, though I’m glad they brought back the old cardinal.

EDIT: I have an older Madden that does not have the current white pants for some reason.

Damn, this is really illustrative. You didn’t have to do all of that and I appreciate you doing that. I love this board.

The brighter tones on the right side make me appreciate the left a bit more, they work better with the black. Someday I’ll stop being lazy and whip up my Buccs concept with those brighter colors (white helmet and pants, red jerseys, 1997 flag logo, orange and pewter accents).

FOR THE RECORD: I do think the 1997-2013 Buccaneers is the best Buccs look, a real modern classic. The reason the current look is lacking has to do with 1) a darker and inferior pewter color and 2) their confounding current aversion to wearing red over pewter —their best combo from the last three sets.

This is a close second to me. spacer.png

(This is quite a generous view as well, since it blocks a lot of the gold rear half of the helmet)

One thing I'm OK with from these uniforms was the orange jersey it introduced, that would be nice to see the current Browns have instead of the Brown w/orange numbers mess.

Unpopular opinion: that Browns set kind of falls into the same category as the 2014 Bucs to me: a few tweaks away, not totally unsalvageable. Get rid of the stupid pants wordmarks and complete the stripes, change the numbers to white on the brown jersey and brown on the white jersey, and they would have been okay. They probably still would have been scrapped because of their association with the Hue era, but they wouldn't be hated as much in hindsight.

I still think they handled the sleeve stripes better than the alternative of trying to cram double-decker stripes from the 1940s into progressively shrinking sleeve caps. The new shades of brown and orange looked noticeably better on the field, which is why they stayed the same even after the Browns otherwise went back to the old uniforms. The brown facemasks were also a huge improvement over the previous grey ones, and those have stuck around too.

That Browns set wasn't good, but I don't feel like it is even on the realm of the Buc's alarm clocks or Rams all bone or Jags barf colored with a two tone helmet.

The biggest issue was that they are such a classic identity that didn't need anything changed at all.

It's as if the Browns said they were sick of being copied by Bowling Green and decided to copy Bowling Green instead out of spite.

I enjoyed the brighter red and orange from the alarm clock era and maybe a stretch for me was when the sock matched the pant stripe. That was about it. On the current uniforms, I wish they could get dazzle pewter pants and wish they’d wear red socks with white pants and then black with pewter. I wouldn’t mind the pewter jersey as much if it had white pants too.

Bucs should leave the bright red to the Niners and Chiefs. The dark red is perfect for them, and goes better with the theme. Yeah it looks more “dingy”, but again, that’s the point. It matches the pirate motif more than the Florida motif. Which I’m fine with because Miami already does the bright Florida style colors over white better than the Bucs ever did with the creamsicles.

The two change I would make to the current Bucs uniforms are to lighten the shade of pewter (it's way too dark and the pewter pants sometimes blend into the black socks from a distance) and use the original pirate flag logo.

Otherwise they seem to suit the franchise well. Just please wear the creamisicles at least once a year. Don't let that completely die out.
