I heard this on the radio this morning and about laughed so hard. Thats as believable as the Lions being the heavy favorites for Lamar Jackson

Why would signing baker on a “prove it” deal be unbelievable. He won’t be making starter money

Yeah, the potential of the Bucs signing Baker doesn’t seem that crazy to me. Do I think it’s a good move? I’m not so sure, but the prospect of them doing so isn’t preposterous at all.

They clearly need a quarterback, but aren’t in a good position to draft one in the first round. They didn’t really seem urgent to go after Carr and don’t seem all that urgent to go after Garoppolo either, and have never been in the Rodgers running. That would leave signing a guy like Baker, Brissett, or even (gasp!) Wentz on a more economical deal, either to be a solid starter or somebody to hold it together until they want to give Trask or a rookie next year a shot.

It’s always possible they draft a guy like, say, Hendon Hooker to create a true QB competition with Trask and see which one emerges, but the cheap veteran route seems like the more likelier route to me.

And speaking of the Rams and related moves, Jalen Ramsey is being traded to the Dolphins...

My gods.  How have they not realized that you absolutely cannot win a Super Bowl with Cousins?  And does Cousins really think there will be a bidding war for him next offseason (after another fizzle-out?)  If I'm him, I take whatever they offer me.  If I'm them, I count down the days till that ridiculous guaranteed contract is over.

It’s a pretty dismal route, but I still kinda like Baker, so 🤷‍♂️

Its better than just tying to trout out with Kyle Trask.

A star CB still in his 20's... for a 3rd rounder and a backup TE?

Sure, I'll take Ramsey.

I think it’s honestly a pretty bad overpay for the Dolphins. Not so much for the trade itself, but for the guaranteed money they just added. He only had like $5 million left in guaranteed money with the Rams, and the Dolphins just upped it to nearly $40 million. Seems risky for a dude who is already in decline, and is also known to be a real headache everywhere he plays. First season may be fruitful, but this is a dude who’s known for quitting on his team when things aren’t going his way. There’s a reason he only commanded a third rounder, and it’s mainly due to the hurdles he always has with his contract.

Daron Payne’s new extension with Washington for 4 yr/$90M ($60M Guaranteed) makes him the second highest paid DT (behind Aaron Donald)

Yeah, and they set the market that's going to cause the Eagles to lose Hargrave, who's a much better player.  Hargrave was projected to get around 18M / 55M guaranteed.   I'm basing that on what writers are saying, because I've never heard of Payne (though nobody's heard of most DTs.)  Hargrave is now probably in the 25M/75 guaranteed range :( .

Still, I don't blame Washington for doing whatever they can to become relevant again.  My main anger right now is still on Cleveland for ruining the QB market forever.

Holy hell.  Hargrave to the 49ers (4/$80, not sure about guarantee.)  That DL will be unblockable.  My gods.

it’s apparently 4/84, “only” 40 guaranteed.  Seems low for ESPN’s #2 overall free agent.

Eagles now down 2 defensive starters, likely to lose two more pro bowlers by tomorrow, and have told Darius Slay to find a trade.

Man it’s nice having a QB on a rookie deal. It’s ironic that if Jalen Hurts was drafted in 1st round, he wouldn’t get paid till next off season. But he gets paid sooner by being a 2nd round pick. Not sure how that makes sense.

Because there's a limit to how far-sighted they can be in negotiating a contract (NFL and NFLPA). NFLPA gives up some negotiating rights for first rounders in exchange for more movement beyond the first round.

It's where I sit.

Hurts, Tua, Burrow, TLaw and Herbert are next to get paid.  After that?  It's a toss up. Maybe Jared Goff if he plays at an MVP level next season.  Dak Prescott?  Maybe Kenny Pickett if he plays really well the next few years?  Jordan Love maybe if he plays well enough?
