Imagine being such a detestable person that you have to sell your toy, and you end up getting six billion dollars for it. Must be a real nice life.

Like the Sterling sale, it mostly makes me want to puke.

And FedEx Field is a dump, so you know these guys will be coming hat in hand for a new DC stadium any day now.

So how come we don't know anything about who else is in the Canadian dude's group? Like is there a person of color in the group? (that seems to be a new requirement for NFL ownership these days).  Harris at least has Magic Johnson and they know each other from the NBA.  There were rumors of a Jay Z and Bezos team up.

It’s like the owners of the Diamondbacks who have gone out of their way to not structurally maintain Chase Field for the last 18 years, and now when it’s falling apart, they’re begging for a new one that’s publicly funded (And remember, the original estimate for age of the building was 60 years AT MINIMUM with proper maintenance). And these municipalities keep falling for it! That’s the part that I genuinely don’t know what to do about. People are just stupid and desperate for sports entertainment, I guess.

The billionaire class somehow keeps growing and a bunch of aspirational rubes think they'll be showered with riches any day now just for going along with them.

Though sometimes you hit the jackpot and get free vacations from Nazi memorabilia hoarders, so I suppose it works out.

He only paid a then-record $800 million for it almost exactly 25 years ago in 1998. I wonder, considering inflation, what his net profit figure is on this 25-year investment?

It seems like Harris has quite a presence in the Mid-Atlantic region. He is from Chevy Chase (MD suburb outside of DC), went to school at the University of Pennsylvania, and owns sports teams in Philadelphia and New Jersey.

I am guessing that a new stadium for the Commanders would be among his top priorities? Can really only hope.

Using inflation calculators, the number wasn't as straight forward to get as you might have assumed, but $800 million in May of 1999 (when Synder purchased the franchise) is roughly equivalent to $1.45 billion today. Sucks a guy like that made $4.5 billion running Washington into the ground.

Cowboys - Lakers - LAFC - USMNT - LA Rams - LA Kings - NUFC

What gets me is instead of fixing it for the WBC you put trash cans all around the stadium. Then their attitude is we’ll let you know in a couple months if we want to move to Salt River where the Native Americans will take care of us.

There's some reports (not sure how credible) that he's 1B in debt (not sure if him personally, or the team).  Being in debt isn't rare for super wealthy people who's main assets aren't liquid, but even if he is that far in the hole, and has normal operating debt from the team, he's still stuffing billions in his pockets on his way out the door.

I wonder what this does to the values of the other league teams.  Are the Giants and Eagles now worth $8B?

I know that the point of investment is that it [hopefully] grows and accrues value, but the fact that we've reached the point where any big-pro sports team is worth over a billion dollars, let alone six, is still wild to me...
